@Aosaw - well, test it! If it doesn't work, well... we have some code ninjas here I guess...

If it were a 3rd edition DnD game, Minsc would be barbarian/ranger.

You know, in the pen and paper game as in Warriors and Priests of the Realms, even regular warriors in Rashemen have the ability to rage. Same with the elite Berserkers. From what I understand, Minsc was a berserker Ranger before he got hit on the head and his wits disordered. He also has his head shaved- and Rashemi usually keep their hair long. Maybe it was shaved because of his head wound and he liked it better that way? The tattoo could be covering up his scars.

You know, personally, i always assumed they mixed up the character descriptions for Minsc and Edwin, because Rashemi have beards and Red Wizards have shaved heads adorned with tattoos.

@LordDarkKnight185 Except I can only see Edwin crushing Boo. I think Xzar looks more like a Red Wizard, since his face is tattooed.

True, but he does not have a shaved head...and only slaves have hair in Thay.

WAIT! are we sure edwin HAS hair under his hood? >.>

@LordsDarkKnight185 I looked closely at both pictures. The one from BG1, I wasn't able to find a very large picture of. But in BG2, it looks like he is wearing another hood under the first one. It hangs down to the side and looks a bit like hair at first glance, but the more I looked at it, it looked like another hood. It's hard to tell because he wears a headband that masks his hairline.

I see! then it may be logical to assume that Edwin is bald with a head adorned with all kinds of mythical tattoos. I am pleased about this.

Then we are back to square one then! Minsc is bald with a tattoo because he has a brain injury yes yes >.>

Minsc should be a Barbarian, not a Fighter (berserker). The former suggests a harsh, rugged life, hence limited armor, rage, and extra HPs. The latter suggests a professional training, with some anger thrown in. That fits Shar-Teel to a T.

Minsc is a ranger. My name is Captain Obvious, and I do not approve of this suggestion ;)

your mistaking things. Barbarians never existed in true 2e AD&D, berzerkers were the barbarians of 2e

In terms of lore, Minsc IS a Berserker. Even in his profile, it states he is on his dajemma, which is a test given to all young Berserkers to prove themselves to a Berserker lodge. If you've played NWN 2: MotB, or read any of the Forgotten Realms books based in Rasheman (Windwalker Series, The Masked Witches, etc) it becomes pretty apparent that Minsc's profile/background exactly fits that of a Berserker. As does his high Strength and combat style.

Well, Bars appeared a long time ago. Perhaps we all remember this guy? They were a class, twice, unlike berserker which was just a kit. Personally, I never liked kits seeing them as nothing more than power-ups. However, Bars were overpowered too in 1e, primarily due to their double con bonus.

I won't argue with lore. I'll simply say that Bar seems more logical to me, and leave it at that.

If you look at it from a powergaming perspective, it's better to have Minsc as a Barbarian or Berserker. I did mod him a couple of times in my games. Nowadays, it feels wrong.

You see, being a Ranger is one of the fun/charming things about Minsc. In 2e AD&D, Rangers are supposed to be heroes. And being a hero is Minsc's main motivation.

@LadyRhian Edwin wears a hood under his cloak, you can see that if you compare it to his beard. And I think its not possible to see this in de BG1 portait.

I always mod Minsc to get him normal Berserker Rage next to his "flipping out from anger" skill

Apart from Minsc's low wisdom, he makes an ideal ranger: Wilderness warrior; Protector of travellers; Friend of animals. He ticks all those boxes. Only thing I would change would be access to spells.

I agree with him being a ranger, but I really cant agree with wielding greatswords. Thats really throwing away one of the great attributes of the class. The only reason of choosing the ranger class as a fighter is the dual wielding. I would suggest that in BG2 he has all his his skills in weapons lika war hammers and handaxes and dual wielding. He could really be cool with a hammer/flail in one hand and an axe in the other.

Hmm, really cant make shadowkeeper/gatekeeper work correctly, otherwise I would have made my Minsc that way.

If they changed Minsc to a berserker, his BG2 line "Hamsters and rangers everywhere, rejoice!" wouldn't make sense anymore. I think the big guy is just fine as is.
