[REQUEST] Improved IWDification for BG/BG2

I was getting burned out on BG2, so I bought IWDEE a few weeks back. I've been having a blast playing through it, and that got me thinking. Druids in IWD are pretty kick ass, and in BG they are very much less so...IWDification from G3 works to combat this by adding in a bunch of Divine and Arcane spells from that game, but they don't cover them all.

I don't know if there's any demand for it, but surely I can't be the only person who misses stuff like Smashing Wave and the IWD shapeshifts when playing BG. Are the creators of IWDification around these forums? Or would anyone be able to take their work and improve upon it, adding in the rest of the spells?

    Sure, I'll do it eventually. But the author's of that mod can do it better, so I'd prefer that they take it on. Plus, I wouldn't be finished anytime soon

    The author of IWDification is CamDawg, who works for Beamdog... so yeah, he's around these parts... :wink:

    Lol thanks for the info @AstroBryGuy I had no idea.

    @CamDawg obviously you guys are busy with all the 2.0 stuff, but if at some point in the future you updated IWDification to include the rest of the divine/arcane spells, that would be amazing!

    Are they? I'm not sure that's true.

    I checked in EEkeeper a couple of days ago (in a completely unmodded game), we have all the beetle animations, and all the iwd elemental animations, which is all the druid needs, (assigned them to my character and checked in game), and the list includes all of the IWD unique animation sets I can remember. They also included some stuff from Planescape like Night Hags, abishais, vargouilles, and some stuff from IWD2 like Driders.

    In my BGEE-SoD install, the beetle animations are in a .bif called SoDBAMs.bif. Also, I don't see them in BG2EE.

    I just used EEkeeper on an (unmodded) BG2EE 2.1 save; they're all there alright. I don't know about BGEE 2.1, because I'll have to make a second installation without SOD from steam, but I have a feeling its included since 2.0 universalized the resources used across all three games, in other words SOD has all the files from BG2EE and TOB included in the base game and vice versa.

    You Assign the Animation to your Character or Characters in the appearance tab then load the modified save. Okay I noticed that they are listed in both vanilla BGEE 2.1 and BG2EE 2.1, but when you assign they appear blank, I wonder why they included them in SOD ans SOD alone.

    There's no animation viewer. I assume @Reddbane is checking the list in the Appearance tab, which is based on the ANIMATE.IDS file.

    The entries are in the ANIMATE.IDS, but the actual .bam files are not included in BG2EE (see screenshot of the invisible beetle next to Abdel and Imoen :wink:)



    EDIT: But, fixing that is a simple as copying the bams from SoD to BG2EE! :smile:

    I don't really see a lot of PST but there seem to be a ton (all?) of IWDEE such as MARILITH_IWD (Yxunomei right) and a bunch of barbarians from HOW.

    Well, right. The plan is to copy the .BAM files (and .VVC and .BCS and .SPL and .ITM and .EFF files) and also copy by hand all of the strings associated with each, and write up a bunch of Weidu code to add them into the game and re-associate them all together correctly. Which is going to be a big PITA. But what can you do?

    Is it all that? Aren't those files already associated with each other in IWDEE so if exported, they'd still be linked.

    A single say on the creature would give the beetle a name.

    And @AstroBryGuy seems to already have an animated bettle going in bg2. But the trouble he went through for that (copying one bam file) isnt needed for bg1?

    @smeagolheart - I think the BAM files would be needed for BG1EE without SoD. On my BG1EE install (with SoD), the beetle BAMs are in the SoDBAMs.bif file. I assume that file is only included with SoD (I don't have an SoD-free BG1EEv2.1 around to confirm).

    Also, for v2.0, it seems that they have not yet integrated all the IWD resources. For example, the PROJECTL.IDS files between IWDEE and BGEE-SoD do not match (and many entries conflict). If a SPL file used one of those projectiles that is not in the BGEE-SoD IDS file, the projectile would need to be imported, the SPL file edited with the new projectile ID, etc..

    Basically, it's not as simple as coping the IWDEE files into BGEE-SoD... yet. It may get there when IWDEE is upgraded to v2.x.

    Yes, the beetle CRE already exists in SoD. I actually copied the SoD beetle CRE to BG2EE for my tests.

    I haven't played SOD - yet - for a creature that doesn't exist in sod I guess would be a test.. Or also did it work as expected in bg2 then... jeez make me beg for info. :)

    Yeah, but it's more of a pain: copy the spell, copy the spell description into a text file, copy any underlying recources for the spell (.BAM, .VVC, .PRO, .BCS, other .SPLs, etc.).
    Yeah, not a problem.

    Does IWDification work in its current state, while still being compatible with Shamans?

    I like the current spell list but I can't figure out how to install it. It doesn't help that I'm useless at installing BG:EE and BG2:EE mods.
