Certain Creatures Automatically Die Entering Dungeon -- Bug? (minor spoilers)

To be specific, when I first set foot in the dwarven dig site near the Coast Way Blockade, a message showed that a mummy had died, awarding me experience (!). This happened literally as soon as I entered. Then, once entering the lower level, the same thing happened but this time it was a greater shadow.

Is this some bug? I'm a little concerned that it'll happen again in later dungeons, denying me the fun of the full combats, or even missing out on key dialog.

    I noticed this too. I wonder if it has something to do with the difficulty setting...

    FWIW, I'm running on the Core Difficulty setting.

    It's because the Dwarves inside the site are fighting the undead. No idea why you earn exp though.

    I could see that as being true if it had only happened in the upper level. But it happened again in the lower level which contains absolutely no dwarves whatsoever, unless you count you-know-who.
