Wild Mage vs Sorcerer for soloing

Which class do you all think is better for soloing?

After playing sod my desire to solo has once again resurfaced. I want to solo the saga with scs.

This will not be a no reload play through.

I've already soloed BG2 and TOB with a sorcerer a couple of times, but never with scs installed. I'm leaning towards playing a wild mage because they are fun and unpredictable.

Any thoughts?

:)

sorcerer is easier, cause you don't have the wild surge that can screw you in the begining, while having more than enough spell to crush everything.

Wild mage is MUCH MUCH MUCH stronger late game (and hell sorcerer is already soo OP lategame) but its ability are way beyond what is mandatory to crush the game with ease.

So if it's for the whole game, sorcerer would be slightly easier, due to early game.

However i rejoin you on the fact that wild mage are super fun ^^. The main key as a wild mage to not screw yourself too much, is to almost only use offensiv spell in the early game.

Since you seems to be a mage lover, you should first do it as a sorcerer, and then as a wild mage imo.

Btw, you should add ascension on top of scs, so the battle in tob are actually hard enough ^^
(especially the final one, which might be hard for a solo sorcerer -but is easy as cake for a wild mage-)

You realize that unpredictable does not go well with no reloads? If you want a more challenging run just use a different handicap.

The Wild Mage is usually both at the top AND bottom of most unofficial "strongest BG2 classes/kits" threads for a reason.

Wild Mages only have a 5% chance for a wild surge via casting regular spells. You're playing with fire though if you use Nahal's Reckless Dweomer at low levels. Once you've got some levels under your belt though, you should be ok. It's less likely that you'll kill yourself at least...even if only slightly lol.

I think the Wlid Mage would be the more exciting run.

    Wild mage for fun.

    Sorcerer for boring reliability.

Dragon disciple just in case you want to be awesome!

This isn't a no reload run.

Anyways I chose to play as a wild mage for this run. I think the class is fun to play.

Glad to hear you picked a class! You should keep us updated on your progress over in the No Reload Thread on the General Discussion forum. Despite the name we've had several minimal reloads and other type runs, so you're welcome to join the fun =)

He used a double negative in his first post so he actually meant that reloading was allowed in his game.

So do critical hits. But that doesn't stop me from getting critted 3 times in a row by three different encounters on their first roll. :smirk:

Wild mage is the most fun and versatile caster, IMHO. With a wm, finding a high level scroll is a great reward and a most exciting prospect, as you can try to cast those spells with nrd once you scribe them into your book.

Sorcerer is boring. You get so few spell types, it becomes repetitive fast. Also finding scrolls is so meh.
