[BUG] Cannot backstab

I have problem with backstabbing. I hide in shadows and then click attack button but my character leaves shadows immediately and is unable to backstab.

My configuration:
OS: Fedora 23, steam
BG2:EE ver: 2.1.63.0

    I'm having the same issue, BGEE 1 ver 2.1.63.2 on a Mac, OS 10.11.4. Considering I play thieves/kits/derivates almost exclusively it gets pretty annoying.

    Are you using Boots of Speed? (I certainly am) Here's a thread from 2013 (!) implying the issue could be with those: https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/14233/bug-in-the-backstab-hide-in-shadows-system-leaves-shadow-to-quickly

    I'm seeing the exact behavior as in the thread above: during the attack *animation* charname comes out of stealth, but there is no roll notification or any real attack taking place.

    No extensive testing other than lots of re-loads due to frustration from not even seeing a roll (a formal miss is fine, no attack due to a bug is not). I didn't actually suspect Boots of Speed until I found that thread, despite having used them on every single charname thief I've made so far (=many)...

    After an update it started to work as it should (ver. 2.1.63.2 ). Did you try to start a new game? Maybe your save is corrupted? I didn't use Boot of Speed.

    EDIT: sorry I didn't notice you were referring to BGEE , I only played BG2EE so I don't know how it works in BGEE
