Valygar

Is there any way to make this guy a little less boring? Any companions out there that bring out his personality a bit more? Or mods that do the same? I'd really like to give him a chance in my next BG2:EE party - class-wise he'd fit right in - but his brick wall like demeanour has always made me dump him immediately after completing the Planar Sphere in the past. I just can't help feeling like he's the least developed of all the original BG2 NPCs, maybe with the possible exception of Cernd.

So tell me, dear forumites, how on earth do you rock Valygar in your party?

The best dialogue he has is with Mazzy, who one day decides he is going to be her squire from now on. If I remember it right...

And Jan has some "funny" lines, I guess, but he does that to everyone. If turnip jokes and long-winded anecdotes are your thing, I do believe he has some for V-man, too.

All in all, though, he is not the most interesting fella around.

He has a pretty interesting back story, so I use that to help me imagine reactions and interactions. Kinda like when I run an Icewind Dale party.

what @Autequi said. He broods about Lavok. Long, long ago @David_Gaider considered expanding the character and giving him a romance. I think his story ended up on the cutting room floor but as best I can reconstruct, he was supposed to come to understand that magic had a good side and, once he had transformed, be able to talk Lord Algrim into abandoning his crusade against wizards.

There was a few other plots that got cut by Bioware -- a Haer Dalis romance an 'Aerie Hardened' subplot.

Take him and Viconia for a walk in the government district (I think it is here so correct me if I am wrong)

Yes it's there. Also don't do that unless you want a really good reason to kill Valygar.

I really don't need more reasons to kill Valygar ;)
