The original BG1 portraits where not designed for specific characters. They where drawn as a job lot and then the NPCs had one (actually 2) assigned for them.
And Glint's portrait still looks like a theater student dressed up and went to a photoshoot at walmart. Doesn't anyone else think it looks incredibly amateurish?

I end up hating all the default portraits (except Xzar and Montaron, ironically) and replace them with custom portraits in my override folder. I even replaced Dorn and Neera and Rasaad. Honestly, the original BG1 portraits seem very cartoonish to me. I dislike their style a lot. I even dislike a few of the BG2 portraits for the same reason.
But, I can see why the Beamdog team would try to make the default new character portraits at least fit in with the other portraits.

Edit: looking at the old one she looks like a regular elf in it, not a drow. Her skin should have been a lot darker.
The new Vikky's portrait is based on the old @Miloch 's work on Viconia (https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/2444/give-viconia-a-better-portrait-for-bgee/p7), and Miloch is a part of the devs team now (https://steamcommunity.com/app/228280/discussions/0/616187839406409013/#c616187839433652181)
So I understand why Imoen and Viconia got new portraits.
But I would like new portraits for other returning NPCs as well

Look at Dolly Parton, for example. That woman has killed a ton of bhaalspawn and dragons in her day.
