Firkraag

AewyrvenAewyrven Member Posts: 228
Mmmkay. .. I'm doing a mostly solo run through on core rules... firkraag will be solo with Yoshi dragged along for unlocks but kicked in and out of group when moving through new areas. So he is not available to cheese it up and use traps.

Current chars a level 16 black guard.

18/77
18
18
13

18

Axe 2*
Flail 2*
Warhammer 2*
Dual wield 3*

Priest spells:
L1: 3x
L2: 3x
L3: 2x
L4: 1x

Gear:
Plate balduran
Sewer cloak (ac1)
Boots of talos (50% elec resist, haven't found better yet)
Ring earth control (ac1)
Ring of ram (he will probably resist it)
Helm balduran
Amulet metaspell (5% magic resist)
Gaunt ogre power (str 18/00, haven't found better yet)
Flail ages (main)
Defender easthaven (offhand)

I have some other gear stashed away, I know I will get the shield helmet and ring which will make me fire immune before I reach firkraag...

50k gold on hand.

I will probably hit 17 fairly close to the time I finish getting through his castle to him.

Am I going to be able to take him down and if not, what do I need?

Keep in mind one critical fact: I am still in chapter 2 and have not chosen a side yet. (Bohdi or bloodscalp)

Edit:

I'm thinking trademeet for the cloak of displacement and barrier belt before I even think of attempting this as well.... in that case I could end up closer to 18 by the time I get to him... I forgot I haven't done trademeet yet...

I think if you don't cheese it it's supposed to be unwinnable (or at least nigh impossible so reload spamming) until Chapter 6. Getting a +5 weapon that early makes the rest of the game so much easier, I doubt it was their intent for people to do so.

I didn't even know it was possible to have trouble to solo a dragon, no matter the class by lvl 13+

get vhailor's helm? Or is that not allowed in solo runs?

Don't use the flail of ages. I'd suggest picking up a shield (the fire resist shield would do nicely here) and having DoE in your main hand and a magical returning throwing axe.

Wing buffet is going to hurt the most and it maybe better to go with range and have him close the distance than you attempting to run to him.

Have a good supply of haste and extra healing pots and all the ones that help with saves.

You need a good + to hit bow (to negate your non-proficiency) plus that bracers that give +2 to hit with missile, gulp potion of heroism+power and attack with dispel arrows and use your poison with arrows of biting and pray he fails poison saves. Also you must have pro from fire %100 all times, refresh it if it gets dispelled, almost have haste (boots+oil of speed) and kite like crazy, and never allow yourself to get cornered. Summon items can also help in a pinch like the efreeti bottle, Kitthix the friendly neighbourhood spider, berserker horn (preferrably upgraded with the beljuril in the dungeon) etc.

If you're aiming on getting Carsomyr for your Blackguard you're out of luck. Do to their evil nature they're incompatible with the weapon....BUT..in lvl 4 of Watcher's Keep there is a version of the Blade for Blkguards albeit much weaker. Have to go through the demon maze to acquire but if you can pull it off early it's a fantastic weapon to have.

Boots of speed can help a lot.

Managed to take him down. I am pretty sure I bullied the fight though. By the time I did haer'dalis trademeet skin dancer and fought my way to him I was lvl 19.

Tried using Perdane (dragon sword ) and kept getting crushed. Switched back to my Foa and started stacking poison weapons.

Didn't hurt I had my Deva chopping at him as well.

Gear was dragon helm and shield fire resist ring ring of earth cheetah boots Foa protection poison Amulet Gaunt ogre power and plate of balduran.

Spells were armor of faith poison weapon and absorb health.

A Real black guard would of skipped the fight and come out with a new mount

Did you summon skeletons? I did this fight with a group at 14 and with 5 skeletons he was dead before he killed 3 of them.

All I had was my fallen diva and myself on my blackguard. It was probably a bullied fight though due to the insane xp you get by mostly soloing. I was 19 at the time so had the deva which helped. (Didn't have gww).

First few attempts was using Perdane (the longswords with +3 vs dragons which I think I was 0 or 1* proficient with. Said screw it and went back to my Foa which I'm 2* with and pretty much wrecked him.

That poison weapon inate is very nasty when you get multiple hits stacking it, added with the devas dispel on hit to strip his buffs...He died pretty quick.

The equip is good, just make sure to buff up properly and use items like Helm of Vhailor, Boots of Speed (Haer'Dalis quest), the sword (Umar Hills) and the ring (Rasaad quest) of Mirror Image.
    You'll be fine.

Edit: sorry, didn't read the rest of the posts.

Didn't have any of it. I had the level advantage because I had unlocked my first ability and thrown it at diva. (Everything after has been gww)

At the time I was... 19 to 22ish... just on xp alone. It wasn't even really a fight.

I had money equipped items balduran plate found rings et but nothing you can't gain outside of chapter 2. I can't clua in things.

I simply marched up to him. Summoned the fallen diva. Threw on poison weapon and Foa and smashed his face in.

I can maybe remember my gear or even my level... but I will tell you this. It was core rules. I had Yoshimo in my party at the entrance to mop up trapped and locked chests and just zerged him .

I was 19 to 21 on level. I had Foa 3 and harmony y shield. Plate balduran. Rest I can't remember but even that will negate most. My level allowed for my crap rolls on saves to manage (I average 3 or so critical misses on a fight vs a 6 man enemy soft group)

Poison weapon. Smack. Deva smack dispel. Poison weapon smack. Kept smacking. Bguard psn weapon was at about 4 per round and the fallen devas mace dispelling on hit he went splat in about 12 seconds.

A micromanage group... I can offer tips... but my actual fight which I was dreading... I was going "thanks for ya scales bro and carosymer. ... Caro was meh since I can't use it and Keldorns an ass anyways and not in my party...)

Hence why I say I bullied it at 19. The deva did help but I'm pretty sure I could have nuked him anyways.

I didn't save, though I think on my next run through I will be saving major fights just to load multiplayer and have some fun kinda thing if ppl join.

What did you do for locked doors and chests for your solo run through as a Blackguard? For example, D'arnise Keep, when you take the secret passage, isnt the first door locked?

If you use the sword icon in the group commands the character selected can force open a door or a chest if their strength is high enough.

Forced a lot of them. I took nalia along and parked her at the entrance/exits in d'arnise as I cleared the level and had her knock chests.

Firkraag you can force the doors easily enough and after I had slaughtered everything went to the city and picked up Yoshi to come clear the locked stuff.
