@Natreg I recall some discussion when the first beta of the patch appeared that a lot of re-engineering of the engine as necessary to continue supporting all the platforms and app stores going forward. The engine was essentially still the same 20 year old piece of code, continually beaten into shape for each release. If you want to support that code on an ongoing basis, at some point you need to take a step back, and pit serious effort into re-engineering the design/implementation with the goal of stability and future support in mind. I think that lead to creating a much more customizable user interface, not so that we customers could fiddle with it, but simply as a necessity in targeting the diverse platforms a modern game is expected to support. The user-customizability is a bonus that comes out of the effort, and is fully embraced, but is not the fundamental reason to make the changes.
Likewise, I suspect many of the other teething problems with this patch series fall out of that same effort. If the re-engineering was successful, it should be possible to turn around many more bug reports, much more quickly. The down-side is that at the point of release, we will still be fighting with a bunch of new issues that fall out of the conversion - and in any game with as much interacting content as the BG series, it is expected that a fair number of issues will be caught by the playing community.
Hopefully we will see a good sequence of patch releases in the next few months, and hopefully the game is still playable (if not perfect) in the meantime.
But as a customer through the Mac App store, I am in the luxury position of waiting for you all to find, report, and have these bugs fixed before we ever see the first release
I've split this off from the update annoucement since I'd like that post to be a bit more information dense.
I'd recommend that each bug get its own thread. If folks want to "vote" by commenting on a bug thread, it will be more visible to us than trying to parse through a big thread like this.
