[SPOILERS] How do you kill that thing?

ArtonaArtona Member Posts: 1,077
I seem to be stuck on final battle.
I have my CHARNAME (assassin - so he's kinda useless in that battle), Corwin, Dorn, Safana, Viconia and Edwin. And I can't figure out how to defeat Belhifet. Firstly, the only thing that seems to harm him that I have are arrows +3 (and only 60 of them) - I read here on forum that arrows of percing should also work, but whenever I equip someone with it, they go "my weapon isn't working!".
The best tactics I tried so far is spamming summons, multiple lowering of resistance, and then arrows +3 and magic missiles... But it doesn't seem to be enough, especially with Cealar, who's an annoyance, but I have to constantly relocate my party members to go further from her. Belhifet also uses hold person and I don't how to dispel it; if he uses that on Safana it's okay, I can deal without her, but after Corwin is held, I basically have to reload.
aaaaand I'm not even gonna start on how annoying is the cutscene before fight, that makes my haste and psalm expire ;).
Am I missing something? Should I start with killing Cealar? I tried that, but her potion of invisibilty are too much to bother, and she is far less dangerous than Mr. Horny in the matter of offensive abilities.
Or is it just "reload and try until you succed"?
I'd appreciate any advice you can give :).

Do you have the "enchanted weapon" spell? This is what it is for.

When I did this fight I had Caelar on my side and it was she who killed Belhifet. But she does have a +3 longsword, so killing her then using her sword against Belhifet should work.

^Hmm was that pre 2.1 patch? Because I just tried having her killed in my party from a save and she doesn't drop anything? And her items can't be unequipped.

No, when I did she was on my side (but not in my party).

I assume that if she is hostile, as can happen depending on your choices, her gear drops. Otherwise the OP is going to have a very tough time if Edwin hasn't learned Enchant Weapon.

Okay, I did it. I actually didn't need to use Enchant Weapon - magic missiles and Corwin's arrows +3 killed Belhifet, and finishing Calear was simply a matter of time. And ankhegs.
Anyhow, thank you for your help :).

This fight was a pushover when I did it on my fighter mage but right now on a fighter cleric with a similar party comp it's not going well. None of my team can hit him. Tried equipping +3 weapons and it doesn't seem to do anything. This is dumb. My nearest save is not really within resting distance.

Try some of the tactics suggested here, I got stuck too with a party that was not well built for this fight https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/54788/final-battle-obvious-spoilers#latest
Web will work on him, but you need to protect your party, and lower resistance on Belhifat. If you decide to choose the dialogue options to kill Caelar, you are in for a much tougher battle too. You don't have to fight her, but I was determined she would die by my hand.

There's an autosave from before you get in the elevator, so it shouldn't be too bad if you need to go back and pick some different spells to memorize.

Thanks for the advise on the autosave.

But even with enchant weapon, I still can't hit him more than once or twice the entire fight, even after breach/lower resistance/doom/GM. This is dumb. Did something change in the tuning or something since launch? This was *not* this hard before.

Edit: I just put it on easy, this is a wall I don't want to throw myself against.

I dunno, I found this fight fairly easy on core, athough I was quite well stocked with +3 weapons.

(I think SoD could have done with more vanilla +3s instead of gimicky +2s though)

Potion of fire resistance, free action and a lot of moving around ;)
Think Corwin did the most damage by far, but I had several ranged people spamming arrows at Belhifet.

Meanwhile I used summons, had my melee guys take care of the small demons and just kept at it.

I had two arcane casters (my protagonist Conjurer and Baeloth) spamming Belhefit with Melf's Minute Meteors. Its quite affective especially in conjunction with Corwin's range....I also had Safana hitting him with a good short bow and quality arrows. Used Dorn as a tank and Viconia there to cast dispel magic and true sight for when Belhefit goes invis. Took me about 5 attempts and some tinkering on the way to bring him down on core rules.

Potions/spells of fire resistance are very important to keep the tanks alive, then Corwin with her +3 arrows. Resist fear is a requirement - have multiple castings. Lower resistance is a big help as well - followed by tons of direct damage magic - same tactics you use against dragons.
