Things to do with the Charm, Petrify, and Imprison

I know charming certain characters gives extra dialogue, but is there a complete list of its uses in game?
But more importantly since Petrify and Imprison essentially act as a save-or-die spell that doesn't actually kill the target, in fact they act as a sort of fantasy cryogenic chamber, has anyone fully explored the ways in which you can bork up the game? I know you can petrify Yoshimo in Brynnlaw, and unpetrify him after fighting Irenicus, and theoretically keep the rest of the game. In fact, a smart in lore Wizard would just probably have petrified Yoshimo during their fight and waited until they could cast a wish spell to remove his Geas, but the game doesn't account for that, though that would have been cool if the game rewarded you (Torment style) for lore appropriate lateral thinking and might be interesting starting point for a mod. I assume however most quest important NPCs simply can't be petrified, but what about quasi important NPCs, NPCs that can die but affect the story whether they do or not? Does the game assume their dead or will they reappear? What if you petrify Imoen in Irenicus's first dungeon? What if you petrify certain NPCs in Siege of Dragonspear? If you petrify Haer'Dalis will it stop his romance with Aerie? Can you petrification stop NPC fights? Basically I want know all the petrify/imprison exploits you've encountered.

Petrification just counts as death in the game engine, but needs a cheaper scroll to reverse. I was not aware you could use petrification trick to keep Yoshimo alive, I always thought if you return to him after Spellhold he would just drop dead:his script checks for the chapter number and kills himself if it is after Undeardark.
In bg1, if you kill a very important npc, and it needed to speak a dialogue, Biff the Understudy would appear and recite the dead npc's lines, only to vanish again. That was surreal.
In bg2 you can not kill plot-important npcs before you yourself getting killed. And if you manage to do so, you will get stucked. Most plot encounters are heavily scripted, breaking that script will break your game. Example:Irenicus fight in th Asylum, he needs to give his speech and flee when he is near death, if you kill him with stat drain (even if it is at all possible), I fear the game will not be able to continue. You will just get stucked in Asylum. As Saemon needs to spawn and teleport you out, etc. (or you can take the portal to Underdark, I dunno if it is possible to do so if Irenicus is killed and the script is broken)
