Game freezes/crashes after meeting Gaelen Bayle

When entering the Slums for the first time and talking to Gaelen Bayle, depending on whether I have NPC companions or no, the game either freezes (when alone) or goes to black screen and crashes (if other party members are present). I am using a heavily modded version of the game. Does anybody have a similar problem?
