In old vanilla, I seem to recall that if you already had the "found" Ankheg armour equipped, Then Thunderhammer smith would not make you one. Perhaps that is what you are considering. That is no longer the case.

actually if you found the one in the ground, you could still get taerom to make you a suit, but what happened in the original was, once he made the suit, he would no longer take in shells for gold, unlike now, once he makes the suit, he will still take in shells for gold ( the max amount of suits that he will make is still 1 )
It's in one of those "tiny item" spots, best to hold tab or click the highlight button towards bottom of the right bar.
Really good armor to get so early in the game, especially if you're keeping Khalid around with you for a bit. As one of the better tanks, it'll do him good.
So to summarize, @buckbeach, you can find one ankheg armor in the place @jackjack mention above and you have one made in the thunderhammer smithy, for a total of two.
