Are romances in BG:EE really romances ?

I was read few things and also ask few poeples, but nearly all of them saing the same thing.
Romances in BG:EE are not romances, it is barely friendship ( what will probably continue in BG2:EE )
Can someone authorized disprove this argument ?

    Uh, what? Kid, it's pixels all the way down. There's nothing real about any of it.

    I'm not sure if I'm reading your question right, but who expects *that* much realism from scripted game dialogue that was written in 1998?

    @Edvin I'm not sure what romance or barely friendship imply? Do you mean having a baby to carry around vs you can have them join your party?
