True story: The first several times I played BGII, I killed him on sight because my friends told me he was a jerk. It wasn't until years later that I got curious and recruited him and discovered what exactly my friends meant by that.
Now I bring him along because I don't know how to not fall for his lies.
I have the same problem with [insert name of Dragon Age character here--you know who you are].
I was thinking that if you drop him before leaving to Brynlaw it could be history gets rewritten...he never had a geas on him. He doesn't indicate (much?) anything before hand, so don't take him and the story we are all familiar with becomes non-cannon, a fevered dream from an alternate reality. You see him again and he just says his standard lets join up again dialogue.
