Conjure Fire Elemental (Druid) can summon more than one creature?

TisamonTisamon Member Posts: 209
As a rule, I don't do summons, so when Jaheira summoned both a 24HD and a 12HD elemental with one spell, it caught me a bit off-guard. Is the spell behaving as intended?

You don't say! Let's read it together, and you tell me what is the part I don't understand, all right? Maybe my imperfect command of English is to blame, who knows?

"Upon casting a Conjure Fire Elemental spell, the caster opens a special gate to the Elemental Plane of Fire, and a fire elemental is summoned in the vicinity of the caster. There is a 60% chance that a 12-Hit-Dice elemental appears; a 35% chance that a 16-Hit-Dice elemental appears; and a 5% chance that a 24-Hit-Dice elemental appears. The elemental will do the bidding of the caster until it is slain or the duration of the spell runs out. All the commands given to the elemental are done telepathically, so there is no time lost due to miscommunication and no need to know the language of the summoned creature. Unlike Mages, priests do not have to engage in a battle of the minds to control their elemental."

At what point does the description mention anything but a single elemental? Where is an implication that whenever a 24HD elemental is summoned, there is a chance a 12HD creature will appear as well?

Atweaks mod tweaks the spell, so it may occasionaly summon two elementals. In vanilla, I don' t think it can summon more than one elemental, unless you stumble upon a rare bug.

I use Conjure Fire Elemental all the time and I have never summoned two elementals with one cast. It's most likely a mod.

Actually, I forgot to mention it happened in LoB mode. Perhaps summoning spells are sometimes altered in such a way due to summons receiving more hp under LoB rules?

Of course she was able to summon both 24 HD and a 12 HD elemental using one spell (Conjure Fire Elemental).
You should have said in one go, in one casting, or even something like "both at the same time".

I see nothing wrong with my interpretation.
Notice that no one else bothered to answer your post before you added clarification.

And for the record, I've seen it happen in vanilla ToB a few times. Very rarely though.

So, by your book, 'Conjure Fire Elemental (Druid) can summon more than one creature?' = 'I can't believe my eyes! This spell can summon either a 12HD or a 24HD elemental! That's truly unparalleled, and I think this info must be posted ASAP on BG2EE forums!', yes? I just want to be sure my poor English actually allows me to understand your finely nuanced line of thought.

Do we really have to start going over the stupid things people post over the internet?

Does it really surprise you that the genuinely misinformed, the resolutely stubborn, the drunks, the high and whomever else can also post in the internet?
You should really start exploring the internet more.

    >You should really start exploring the internet more.

I'll take your advice into consideration.

To conclude the thread: it seems that this behavior of Conjure Fire Elemental is extremely rare in vanilla BG2EE, but totally legit. Forgive me if I don't feel the urge to cast the spell 200 times just to see exactly how rare

I don't think it is that rare to summon two. I've done it more than once. I was using that spell a bit though. From the description, it certainly seems like it should only be one.
