Is general biffing still recommended for the Enhanced Editions

I have no idea what it's about, but I've heard it can improve performance. So is it still required for the EE versions?
Also, where can I find some recent Enhanced Edition discussion on this topic?

It was required for large mod installations in the original games which would freeze sooner or later because of the large number of files.
@Gallowglass Biffing is the process of packing all the files from the override folder into archives with ".bif" extension. They can usually be found in the "data" subfolder of the game.
BWS said I ended up with about 23.400 mods data, but If I get decreased performance I should General Biff, that's why I asked.
Thank you again.
Anyway, it doesn't seem to be the case anymore for the Enhanced Editions.
