@Aikimox Actually the scimitars are the exact same as before. The original's "+5" was a bit misleading. What they did was take the +3 to hit and damage and added the +2 armor bonus to it and called it a +5 sword. If you compare the statistics you will see that they are the same.
What about the extra 15pts damage that it used to deal in BG1 (in Drizzt's hands that was)? Now, it grants 50% fire resistance instead. I actually prefer the new ones but given the fact that you can get 2x +2 Scimitars, stealing Drizzt's weapons is not that interesting any more. I only did it because he's the most powerful opponent in the game, so beating him one on one means beating the game. I wish there were equally powerful evil characters, so I'd leave the good drow alone...
Oops. Forgot about the fire resist! That one is different then but the other is the same.
As to the extra 15 damage that was to compensate for the fact that there was no dual wield back then. Oddly enough, in the original he didn't even use the same scimitars you get from him as his main weapon. Instead he used a special "invisible" weapon that was made just for him. It did the extra damage to represent the use of the off hand sword without having to rework the engine for dual wielding. If he were wielding the actual swords that he drops for you there would be a graphic anomaly (it would look like his original sprite had another sword kind of stuck on it). This is why you could pick pocket them; he wasn't actually using them!
BTW, there's a very good how to on youtube. The guy used stackable potions + artifacts (golden girdle, large shield +2, helm and cloak of balduran, full plate mail, ring of protection +2, gauntlets of weapon expertise) and finally, staff-mace +2 to get the best thaco. Takes Drizzt down pretty quickly.
I once finished him soloing with a bard but there was a lot of running around (but no missiles) and potion drinking, hehe.
i remember in vanilla bg1 you could surrond him with skeletons so he cant move and then have him just off screen, and get your skeletons to attack him and then quickly get out of line of sight, and if you did it correctly drizzt would stand there and get wailed on skeletons and still be blue, which made it so you didnt lose rep when you killed him but you only got 1200 xp ( because this is bg1) havent tried this in bgee because when i killed him i did so in melee combat with my team of 6, i believe i was somewhere around 90 000 xp, and what i was: i had 3 beserkers, gave them all a potion of cloud giant str, potion of heroism, and the one guy that was going to be attacked by drizzt i gave him a potion of mind focusing and defence to help with the armor class and made sure he had the golden girdle and gave him all the good AC items i had, then i had my illusionist cast improved invisibility on all 3 of my fighters and they all attacked drizzt, i believe drizzt didnt even land a hit on me, and i killed him in a couple of rounds when my beserkers went beserk i believe they were somewhere around 0 thac0 or so, plus the improved invisibility gives them +4 to hit, while giving drizzt -4 to hit, becuase drizzt also has insane thac0, somewhere around -9 or some jargon
