BG2 install with mods

A few weeks back, just before I knew about BG:EE I was doing an install of BG2 and ToB. I had a bundle pack and install the main game and I can't remember rest of the order off hand. But I looked it up online what was the best order for patches and mods and widescreen mod and all that. I patched it and added the bonus disk and on different installs I had one with shadows over soubar (I think its called that) and another with some other mods. I didn't seem to have any luck installing Acsension.

Anyway on one install it would always crash between irenicus dungeon and entering the city for the first time. The second time for some reason the buy menu was not working right. Couldn't buy or sell any items. One time I think I had no sound at all.

Mostly I just want acsension, expansion and bonus disk. I would like to have 1 or 2 of the extra characters from mod packs but not a big deal.

Not sure why I'm having trouble. Its late and had a long day, but I think I got acsension on pocketplane or spellhold studios or something. Can anyone help me? I was running it on win 7, maybe thats part of the problem. Where is a good place to get acsension? Whats the proper order to install and patch and mod? That sorta thing. Thanks!

Big World Project and Big World Setup are arguably the best ways to install mods especially multiple mods at once.

    You can find BWS here:

Download and install the lastest version. The options can be a little daunting at first but bws will automagically fetch (or try to) and install all the mods you want as error free as possible.

I don't have those mods, but one time I encountered a glitch similar to what you described where I couldn't get out of Irenicus's dungeon. More specifically, I couldn't talk to the golem that was supposed to open the door for me in the 1st level. I solved this problem by using the ctrl J cheat to get past the door so I could keep playing. In subsequent playthroughs I have not had this problem, so I don't know why it happened, but like you, it may have also had to do with mods.

My suggestion for a quick fix so you can get on with your game is to use the MoveToArea cheat to bypass the part with the glitch. To get to Waukeen's Promenade, that would be: CLUAConsole:MoveToArea("AR0700")

Thanks guys. I bookmarked it :-) The teleport thing would work well but the last time I installed I couldn't buy anything and would have to keep adding items with shadowkeeper and didn't want to do that the whole game.

The OP sums up my worry about mods. I mean, you can always uninstall/reinstall, but this is a long, slow process and usually not worth the effort IMO.

Thanks. At any rate BG2:EE will make things at least a little easier. They will likely combine at least SoA, the patch, the Bonus Disk and ToB (unless that part ends up scrapped by the growing army). It would be nice if they incorperate Acsension for an easier download by a click of a button. The only time I had it working was years ago and when I got to the head fire giant fight, with all the bonus archers and everything to toughen the fight I casted haste on my party I remember and it crashed... I had a pretty fast pc at the time to.

Reedmilfam I downloaded the big world setup but Norton doesn't like it and labels it a risk and deletes it. Are you sure its a safe file?

@MyNameIsRob Try downloading from the link below. It's the latest version straight from the author's page. If Norton complains it's a false positive.

To setup Big World Project is all you need is the file: http://dabus.bplaced.net/BWP/bws.php ?? And it will go through all the setup for you?

Yes, try it. Make sure to customize your install.

@CuChoinneach Yes and it allows you to setup options for every mod you choose, download them if you don't already have the file, setup the entire installation, warn of conflicts in your choices or additional mods necessary, such as fixes, and even allows you to pause it and resume installation later.
