Mac BG 1 Update Not Starting

Hi, I'm trying to update my Mac version of BG 1 EE with the latest update. It downloaded until 90% of the bar was full, and then the download began acting strangely, saying that it would be be "9 months until download completes" and so forth. Then it just stopped, and now it only says waiting for download to start.

What can I do to resolve this and finish the update without risking my saved games? And is it safe to exit out of the download screen? Thanks for your time.

Where did you purchase the game from @vreish e.g. Apple store, Beamdog, Steam.
