Getting error while installing a mod

I'm getting a FATAL ERROR failure, the mod is telling me that it's not in the game directory, while it is... What the hell causes this?

    You need to install the mod in the directory with the CHITIN.KEY file for the game. The location of that will depend on what platform you are running on (Windows, macOS, Linux) and which vendor you purchased the game from (Beamdog, Steam, GOG, Mac App Store).
