Ghost Knight Slaying w/Out Exploits (Spoilers)

Resurrecting an old thread (which I seemingly can't comment on anymore)

https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/17198/can-you-still-kill-the-ghost-knights

I tested the Arrow of Detonation / Poison Weapon trick. It does work. It does take a long time. I'm thinking the only way to (somewhat) legit do this in game without using EEKeeper to create like 300 Arrows of Detonation is...

- Buy the 12 stacks of x5 Arrows of Detonation from Sorcerous Sunderies in BG. (Gives you 60 Arrows Total) which will run around 27,000 gold with an alright rep... not terrible.
- Use Poison Weapon on Dorn (and Haste to get more attacks poisoned)
- Reload if too many poison hits miss, as you will run out of arrows before they die (you'll hit everytime, but poison save won't fail every time)

Sound accurate? Or is there another "legit" way to do this?

Thanks!

Well, the poison dispersal through arrows of detonation is itself considered an exploit by many. I thought they'd nerfed poison in v2.0 so it wouldn't spread via detonation, but I could be wrong. If you're on v1.3, though, it will still work. Still, $27,000 bucks is a costly venture. How many exp. points do you get for those knights?

Poison still hits on detonation in latest patch, I can confirm that. You don't get EXP at all, but the gear the ghosts drop is ridiculous and includes multiple helms of charm protection, full plate, other magical plate mail, magical bow, magic shields, etc.

Obviously end-game you don't need much of it, so you'd probably sell it and hopefully make up your losses. If you don't use Unfinished business, its I think the only way to get a Charm Protection helm? Not sure... And of course, that is the only other set of Full Plate too I think...

They should really probably just give ghosts full poison resist... Ulcaster too. OR make them outright killable - say with magic weapons and limit the gear drop. Either/Or. The poisoning of a ghost makes little sense. I do like how the Ulcaster ghost drops the Robe of the Neutral Archmagi though.

that is indeed the only place that I am aware where you can get a helm of charm protection

apparently in the vanilla game feldepost ( I believe) was supposed to sell a helm of charm protection, it's even in his store list if you use NI, but for some weird whacky reason he doesn't sell it

legitimately there are 3 suits of full plate mail in BG1 ( not including SoD) but in theory you can actually get infinite suits, so here is the location of the 3 legitimate suits:

    - taerom sells a suit in beregost
    - taurgosz in the bandit camp area has another suit
    - in the 4th basement level of durlag's tower ( right before the greater wyverns) the half-dwarf guy is wearing a suit

and now on how to get "infinite" of them

on the 3rd basement level of durlag's tower ( the one that is chopped full of dopplegangers) sometimes a doppleganger named "durlag trollkiller" will appear, if you happen to paralyze this doppleganger then you can kill it before it turns into kiel, if you successfully kill the durlag version it will drop a suit of full plate mail, so anytime you see durlag trollkiller, blast some wands of paralysation and pick up some snazzy full plate mails

armor wise, full plate mail is the best armor in BG1 because it has the best armor modifiers plus you can use it with rings/cloaks/amulets of protection

Yeah, honestly Unfinished Business is great for things like that. I'm not a modder generally, but I'll take it just for the missing, non-unbalancing item additions, and Kagain's quest.
