BG 2 EE Crash on startup

NoSecNoSec Member Posts: 4
Recently I have been looking for a classic rpg to play while I have to use low spec laptop so I picked up BG 2 EE on steam. Unfortunately after I launch it only white blank window appears and then a error message. The crash dump says "The thread tried to read from virtual address for which it does not have appropriate access". I tried numerous fixes from around the net like running it in Windows vista mode and manually installing OpenAL. None of which worked. I also tried adding "SetPrivateProfileString('Graphics','Backend','0')" to .lua. It was the most effective fix since instead of baldurs gate crash message I got standard Windows application stopped working message. By the way I am using Windows 10 64 bit with intel hd graphics gpu. I already tried all the solutions listed on the offical support page.

    Hi @NoSec
Please could you attach a directx diagnostic report
(Windows/R, type dxdiag, click ok, wait for the green progress bar to finish, save all information then drop the file into the comment box here.

    Thanks

Could you try installing Directx 9.0c please. It can install alongside later versions.

    Thanks

    Sorry to hear that.

What version of .Net did Windows update get you to. There are a few ways of checking, e.g. http://www.askvg.com/how-to-check-which-version-of-microsoft-net-framework-is-installed-in-windows/

You could also try v1.3 of the game to see if that makes any difference. From Steam, right click the game and select properties followed by betas. Find bgiiee_1.3 and let Steam update.

I have .net 2.0 3.0 3.5 4.0 . Switching to 1.3 actually allowed me to launch game. Still it is terribly laggy to the point you have to wait forever for a intro sequence to begin. I don't think it is hardware fault since I have run original BG 2 without problem as well as some more demanding games. Still thank your for your help. Could switching OS to linux mint or ubuntu possibly help my issues ?
