I have to ask, why would a bikini apply a bonus to dexterity, when wearing mountain plate doesn't decrease it?

@Pantalion No.. It doesn't increase dexterity. I'm refering to DnD rules you see.

Armors work in a way that the heavier armor is, the less you're able to use dexterious moves.

If you character build is based around your character wearing a full-plate, then you won't need a dexterity higher than 12. The armor is too heavy and cumbersome to do anything dexterious in it. Your dexerity might be 25, but as long as you're wearing a full plate, your dexerity will be treated as being 12 at best. It will not let you go higher than that. So don't think your warrior in full plate is going to be a super dodger, a dagger specialist, an expert archer, or be a person with high reflexes.

A character with a lot of dexterity is actually better off NOT using a full plate, because lighter armors offers you protection as well as the abillity to use more of your dexterious moves. I made the arguement that a chain bikini is lighter than chain shirt. The bikini offers LESS armor, but offers you to use more of your dexterity in return. Especially since the bikini lets you wriggle your waist and shoulders freely.

*Blows on his glasses before putting them on.. like a boss... nerd*

    .. I actually don't use glasses. I stole these. B-) Can't remember who

And @SandmanCCL... Ri-hight! *High fives* XD

All of the sprites in game were made out of 3D models.
3D models were lost, so there is no possibility to make new armor shapes (unless you want to edit hundreds of 2D frames, then go ahead).
And to be honest, you barely see your character anyway, so there is no point of such thing. If you want bikini, just use portrait with one.

The difference in flexibility and weight for someone in a chain shirt as compared to a chain bikini is pretty negligible. Your point 100% correct when comparing lighter armor against full plate because there is a material and significant contrast. But you don't go from agile to encumbered by switching from a chain bikini to wearing a chain shirt that covers the top of your chest and your midrift.

For BG purposes, obviously, it doesn't make a difference (and that can be rationalized as well to the extent that dexterity reflects reaction time and coordination and there is no question that both of those are still in play to help block or deflect attacks even between combatants in plate mail).

I'd stick with the "I want to see it because it is fun" angle.

Correct in 3rd edition, however just as the BG engine has it, AD&D does not restrict Dexterity at all as far as I can recall.

I was thinking on the same page. This is one of the reasons why STR and DEX were so powerful back in the day.

@Pantalion Oh, I didn't actually know those were 3rd edition and up exclusive. But yeah, I didn't mean a non-magical bikini should grant you dexterity for no reason lol And @AHF Yep. It's definetly more because it was fun, but I thought I'd over-explain my point just be sure. :P

Actually, @Kirkor, I've been thinking about Baldur's Gate 2 and armor-designs in general. I'm an artist, and it doesn't seem too difficult to replicate the model art, but I'm not sure how to incorporate it into the game afterwards. I imagine it takes a long time to do it because no one else have ever done it, and that's not time I have. However, if Beamdog would provide me with such a script, I wouldn't mind doing a few designs for free. It's entirely possible I could.

... lol, now I just imagine making a ton of nude models of the women. The necklaces and rings are armor enough, right? XD Nah, it would be cool to make some actual cool looking, practical armors in seriousness. Maybe I'll hand in a portfolio of my work in January and ask nicely :)

Ugh, I hate armour that's designed like that.

DEX max bonus for armor is a 3rd edition rule - and one of the best rules ever. Because it doesn't exist in 2nd ED, you continue to max DEX regardless of armor.

It also meant that it was harder to use ranged weapons in heavy armor (appropriately). It make for a distinction between heavy and light armor (STR vs DEX based fighter).

Well to balance it out a bit, they could always dress minsc in a mankini.

And with that mental image, its time to leave the thread.
