Planescape: EE won't start

Hi, I hope someone can help me. I bought Planescape today from Steam but haven't been able to play it. It works on my girlfriend's laptop but not mine.
I have an old HP laptop with Windows 10, Intel Core 2.30Ghz processor, 4096RAM, 13GB remaining on hard disk, and DirectX version 12. My graphics card is Intel HD Graphics 3000 and I used the Intel Driver Update Utility to update the drivers today. I tried re-downloading OpenAL too.
As soon as I ran the game I got this error:
"The application has encounterd a problem and must close. There will be a log of this error in C:\Users\James\Documents\Infinity Engine - Enhanced Edition\crash\dump.3.1.3.0.0019.dmp.
Please contact support@beamdog.com for help."
I didn't have a Baldur file so I downloaded one to the "Documents\Planescape Torment - Enhanced Edition" directory, with "SetPrivateProfileString('Graphics','Backend','1')" which brought up a different error when I tried to start the game:
"Could not compile DirectX shaders."
I tried replacing 1 with 0 but then got the original error message.
Thanks in advance!

See if it helps.
The LUA workaround has been successful for other people with this chipset e.g.

For the shader issue try DirectX 9.0c which can be installed alongside later versions.

If that doesn't work please zip and attach a directx summary
(Windows/R, type dxdiag, click ok, wait for the green progress bar to complete, save all information)
