Adding members to your party once the game is underway

Is there any way to add new characters to your party once you have started the game? I was thinking of starting with two or three characters and maybe adding another one later.

Also, I really don't like using resurrection (for me once you are dead you are dead) so if a party member dies I would rather create a new character to take their place.

    Sure, just play in multiplayer mode and bring in new characters anytime.

    Thanks for that. I haven't played since I bought the game back in 2000 or whenever. I'm sure you used to be able to add characters without using multiplayer mode.
