Those are good, though I'm more of a fireballa. The lightning rebound though can do far more damage -

In BG1, I also like the 1st level druid spell Entangle, a handy precursor to using an Ogre as target practice. I much preferred the BG1 animation for that spell as well. Hate the glowing vines.

I don't think I've ever once been able to cast a lightning bolt that didn't rebound and hit a party member. That spell is just wrong, but would be epic in multiplayer!

Ooooh I must make a lightning bolt sorcerer for the lulz.

Insect Plague. Party friendly, anti-mage, you're covered in beeeees.

Magic missile is cool. I also like fireball for it's indiscriminate AoE carnage.

Silly me, gotta be Holy Smite then, Fireball that doesn't hurt my team and blinds the target? Glorious.

Sleep and Horror are probably the two best spells for mobs. BG:EE uses the ToB engine so you can also cast Glitterdust, which is another good one for enemy gangs.

I like disabling spells that incapacitate the enemy. So I use spells like Charm, Blind, Hold, Chaos, Emotion: Hopelessness, etc.

When you Charm an enemy have him or her drop all their gear and expend any spells they might have against their own. When you tie them up fighting each other you can make pretty quick work of them.

Oh. Also. Farsight. Farsight is the most fun ever.

...And Nahal's Reckless Dweomer in BG2. What's more awesome than forcing a wild surge, but with a small chance that instead you can cast ANY DAMN SPELL YOU KNOW.
Nothing, that's what. It is the most awesome thing ever, and every once in a while it drops a cow on someone's head. Double plus!

Nahal's Reckless Dweomer will be in BG:EE. Should be great fun (for me using Neera probably more than playing a Wild Mage, but still).

Blind. Both for its cheesiness and because I like toying with my enemies.

Load Game. I used that spell a lot, especially while being newbie :). Aside from that, Lightning Bolt. I just have some liking to electricy based spells/techniques.

chromatic orb is great.. also as @elminster said Blind is a lifesaver, especially if you're soloing

    Personnal Best? Summon Cow.

For BG1 I'd probably have to go with fireball. There's something very satisfying about going from clearing random enemies one individual at a time to one group at a time.

Chromatic Orb +6 Saves, not that great I find!

And they burn a bit afterwards as well. That is... stimulating. (*insane chuckle*)

Stinking cloud in BG1. Knocks everyone out for some quick range damage.
Or infravision with my elven mage. can't decide.

Web, the ultimate incapacitator, than just plunk away with ranged weapons. Doubly fun if your fighter has Spider's Bane.

Identify. Saves me a lot of cash and is the only spell I use regularly.
