I guess the thing is, the better you know a period of history, the more inacuarcies grate, eventually making it impossible to suspend disbelief and enjoy the show.

Well, I guess there are several people like me who don't seem to mind it, since Vikings is - once again, one of the top shows on TV (sharing the spotlight with fantasy shows like Game of Thrones). While, I have always been a huge fan of the Viking era (as well as pirates - perhaps I have a thing for wanting to be on a boat and sail) - I admit that the show has made me dig deeper into the history of vikings - and I do see where they take ample leisures (Rollo is not Ragnar's brother) - but for the sake of the story, the dynamic between the two for the show made for some great moments. Sure, they could have made a new character to be Ragnar's brother and just came up with a Viking name - but what that's done is actually made me look up Rollo and all these other things. (There's people who scream about one of the Christians that was crucified by Christians saying that they'd never do that - but to me, if you know the moment I am talking about - they show did it because it was VERY symbolic of the character).
To each their own. Clearly you're not one who enjoys the show - and have made it repeatedly clear you don't, which is fine. Nothing in the world is going to change my mind about how much I love the show. Different strokes for different folks!
On that note - I am ready for the new episode tonight! Last week's episode was intense and curious to see how those consequences fall out this week!

True... at least with fantasy, I can't complain about inaccuracies because nothing about the setting is accurate, although I do prefer it when things make sense, though I realise that's not always possible with fantasy.
Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the show... I just wish they'd do the clothing and armour properly for once, considering it's shown on a channel that's called The History Channel.
On a somewhat related note, what do people think of Knightfall? It's another History Channel show, set in the late-Crusader period, about the Templars.

Eh, no, I think you have me confused with someone else. My points where general, about historical dramas. I wasn't commenting on Vikings, because I haven't watched it. Well, I watched the first episode, I didn't hate it, but I wasn't gripped by it, so it's still quite a long way down my "To Watch" list.
Just watched "Dark" on Netfix, which was seriously bonkers. If you want something historical, try Wolf Hall.

Well, here's hoping that - when/if you ever get around to watching the show - you at least enjoy it even just a small fraction of the amount that I do.
Latest episode of Vikings was good... focused way more on the characters, this turn around, than the action. Next episode looks like it's going back to all out war... Ivar seems to have a plan up his sleeve with abandoning York (or seemingly doing so)...
Another amazing episode... the Bishop is captured... and brought along with Ivar... the conversations between Ivar and the Bishop are great... because they're polar opposites in their beliefs... but almost exactly the same, otherwise... the scene where the Bishop tramples the woman with his horse was brutal... and then the cliff hanger...!

Lots of emotion. Turmoil. So. Freaking. Good.
