@voidofopinion At first I thought that was a bit of a weird comment but the article actually seemed quite good and less about objectification. I would not mind being paid to dress as a maid and learn coding and marketable job skills.
Maybe I should do a twitch thing where I cosplay and teach ppl how to do basic nwscripts lol
If you do that then sooner or later this is going to escalate in beamdog live streaming in chainmail bikini's.
OK guys you've had your fun (and the vision of hairy legs in a Japanese schoolgirls skirt will haunt me for the rest of my life ). Now can we get back to the topic at hand please? You know, the one in the title of this thread.
Haha, I'm not sure how it got from "anyone can code, you can find any code tutorials by any kind of person" to this kind of discussion. I admit that I don't think the initial topic is quite productive either, there doesn't seem much of a productive way for it to go.
Maybe someone should make a sticky of tutorials, tools and content to make it easier for ppl to find stuff. A better ticket might be to ask if Beamdog can install some of the better community offerings into their version if they have the creator permission but I think most will oblige. Essentially I think crowd sourcing might be better than asking Beamdog to do everything from scratch.
Critical detail, hmmm. I'll not post actual links but if you go to google images and try "cosplay japanese school uniform" and then try "cosplay french maid uniform" you'll not see a great difference.
As to your second paragraph, I was thinking something similar but with a much wider remit.

Well a community coming together in heated discussion then sharing a laugh is good for morale and helps to build bridges instead of tear them down.
Ultimately Trello and Beamdog will decide where to best place their development zots. Simply because something is requested and voted on doesn't mean it is going to happen.
Now should be a time everything is on the table. Our responsibility is to ask for the stars and Beamdog in return will try their best to give us the moon. It may end up only being a telescope when all is said and done but at least we can still look up at the sky and dream.
There is a lot to read here, but I would like to point out, that as nice as Lilac souls script generator is, Beamdog is putting in new script shtuff... Conditions, instances, object identifiers, and the what ever else.
Also his script generator couldnt be used to do everything I ever thought of doing, so thats why I learned to script.
What's easy and what's not is subjective. I don't use script generator now, but a few years ago I had no idea how to code.
NWScript is easy to me and easy to you, but it's not easy to everyone - it certainly wasn't easy to my past self who had no idea on scripting at all.
And if anyone's needs are covered by what the script generator can do, that's great.
I don't think saying "there are no reasons for excuses" is appropriate when we're not talking about responsibilities, but hobbies. These people don't have to create modules, but they feel like it, so let's make it easier for them. Scoffing someone who wants to spend their free time creating new content for our favorite game, because they're "making excuses not to script" is not what the community should do.
Ummm, theres a difference between not being able, and willing to learn. Not all of us have as much time on our hands as we'd like. The time I do spend with the toolset id prefer to spend building areas even though yes, I am interested in learning scripting and tried. And your right, it is extremely simple but very unforgiving I have found in terms of format and the way things need to be done in sequence, and picking it up every now and again when I have time as I do is impossible to remember all those finer points(for me anyhow) and it gets extremely frustrating when a 90% correct code refuses to compile. Enter lilacs and happy days. So yeah, these are just some more points to bear in mind when you berate people for not learning scripting.
If it's so difficult you have no time to play let alone mod you can use existing scripts I imagine. Most ppl are a little familiar with code because of their tumblr or other journals and the like.
Beamdog hasn't posted plans to change how NWScript works so for the foreseeable future it works the same as ever. There's no reason to think that Lilac Soul generator no longer works.

More than that. All scripts generated with it are actually REQUIRED to work (if they worked in 1.69) for the EE to maintain backward compatibility, and that's their main and foremost intent.

Are we truly ready to accept such consequences?

@TarotMaster I think you may have misunderstood a critical detail there lol
...And I am pretty sure Phil streaming NWN:EE in a Maid outfit is where every fulfilling discussion should ultimately end.
Someone add Maid Costume Phil to the Trello board!

Hey on a serious note. I’ve dabbled with lilacs and stuff for years. Is that c++ ?
Like can you actually programme by learning it??(commercially)
