Is GOG version compatible with the Steam base game content?

Can I simply install the GOG version of the game on to the Steam copy of Baldur's Gate and everything will work fine? It's just that GOG has the expansion content on 50% off now.

    No. You have to buy SoD from the same store you bought BG:EE from.

    So you can either buy BG:EE+SoD on GoG, or wait the sale on Steam (and/or Beamdog).
