Illustrations not appearing in dream sequences?

Hi everyone. New poster here; sorry if this is in the wrong place.

So, I've just started a new game in Baldur's Gate (with SoD installed) and, while the EE illustrations appear for each new chapter narration, the dream sequences appear only as a black screen with the scrolling white text. The audio is fine, but I don't see any UI or illustrations (half-burnt candle, dagger, etc.)

Was this a feature that was removed in a patch? Or is it a bug? Am I the only one who's encountered it?

EDIT: Just to add, I'm not using any mods, and I'm loath to report this as a bug until I know for sure. It may have been an aesthetic decision for all I know!
