Install Size of BGEE smaller than original?

I distinctly remember buying Baldur's Gate twice, both times it having 5 cd's and installing just about 2GB...

Why is BGEE only 1.3GB?

    There are still 500mb to be downloaded in release day and they killed all the duplicated assets present n ultiple CDs, as the city of Beregost, for instance.

    Final size after install is estimated to be in the 3gb range.

    Because you've only downloaded a compressed torrent with another 500 Mb of compressed data yet to be downloaded, if not more.
