Different types of ranged weapons or making it simple to add your own is actually a pretty legitimate suggestion. Pretty much all the systems used by others are work around hacks that piggy back off other weapons or use item activation, neither is ideal.

Yeah I agree. That's why I made my own ranged combat system.
