As you all know now every Friday BD makes a streaming on the development status of NWN: EE, last night on the twitter account they posted the following message:

An old friend returns with a new look.

"AN OLD FRIEND RETURNS WITH A NEW LOOK"


Now I'm not up to you but this phrase intrigues me ... also because from my point of view it can mean many things...

Can it mean the return of an iconic character? (Minsc and Boo?).Also because in the last streaming if I do not remember they said they would discuss with WoTC if it was possible to "insert" the BG material into NWN: EE, as every week BD discusses changes and propost with WoTC.

It can also be the announcement of the return of another old NWN Dev ... "with a new Look" could mean a metaphor, to say that a Dev returns with new ideas and proposals? (Perhaps this theory is forced but...we would see).

    Actually the post is a little more related to NWN: EE but yes ... I hope there is a release date of 2.5 ... now since yesterday I started playing BG2: EE ... it would be nice to have the update before I get to play IWD: EE.

    No ... it's not possible ... he talks about "an old friend" Aribeth and a little too banal ... ok ... you say and the "cover character" (almost) the NWN has always been but with the part "new look" seems to me too simple a simple mapping do not you think? (even if the part on the mappings of the texture of the armor seems down with the latest patch but still under development), no ... I really hope that is something new, I do not want to get too excited though ... it would be nice to have a BG follower in NWN ... (Minsc and Boo).

    Let's face it Misc and Boo are among the most iconic characters in the entire history of D & D Pnp, ibri, comics etc ... and the Misc character is also used now in many modern games ... just look at Perfect World and Criptic studio, Misc and Boo introduced them to "Neverwinter" with the update / expansion of "Elemental Evil".



    Think also one thing @Manveru If it's Misc and Boo then maybe they've been able to talk to WoTC and have the ability to insert BG content into NWN, Although ... on minsc I do not know if it's possible to put it into play, counting that in Elemental Evil it goes much further than the events of NWN, in general "Neverwinter" MMO takes place on a different emporal line where Nasher is no longer the king of Neverwinter but Lord Nevember (if I'm not mistaken) of Waterdeep,Okay ... even if Neverwinter MMO and a bad game still has a good background story if you love the lore in general.

    I think you did not understand the meaning of the sentence ... consider an old friend who returns the tollset Aurora and a bit strange but ... hoi bo ... I do not know.

    To not go off the subject, think about a very famous D & D character ... even a BG or IWD character or D & d in general who you loved so much that maybe he could come back to NWN.

    Trent will have some colour in his selection of clothing. So no black shirt, no black zip sweater.

    Ok, not to pour cold water on the Minsc & Boo theory, but given all the variables and subject data, cross referenced with probable motives and previous behaviours, by profiling said poster of intriguing comment, one would have to ascertain that the comment is speaking metaphorically and thus referencing a thing rather then an actual person. One would then have to derive that it must or may be a game feature that is being referenced. In so doing, one would then speculate on the weight of the apparent wording of ‘old friend’ that it would have to be a central feature, this I would guess maybe, possibly, they’ve revamped the UI in some way.
    Either that or Trent has done something to one of his project weapons to alter its appearance.
    Or, Minsc and Boo theory is indeed correct and I’ve overthought the whole thing.

    They said they won't alter the main campaign, so I don't see they would have added Minsc and boo. I rather think it's someone from one of the NWN campaigns, maybe Deekin. But we'll see tonight :)

    They said last week that they were working on a few new demo pieces to show off the new texture mapping capabilities but didn't show them then as the artists wanted to get them looking perfect. They should be done now and ready to show off.

    Sensible money would be on new versions of Aribeth and/or Deekin, they're the two most iconic NWN characters and would both be suited to the new fancymaps.

    On the fact that he is not a real person I agree ... but to say that refers to a game feature and a little out of reach ... the phrase refers to an iconic character of D & D or anyway an iconic hero-mate that we all loved, even the demo mapping theory is not bad ... but I do not think it refers to Dekin or Arbieth and then Dekin in the base campaign does not exist.

    Who hates that have changed their mind? ... counts that the triad Borad card on new content for OC-SU-HoTU and passed in the road map ... and then excuse me that you tell me then of Neerea and beautiful company in BG: EE they in the basic game did not exist they have added them with the EE adding new stories and missions and characters ... come on ... and a characters are perfected ... and connected with the speech of @InflatableFriend it could be a character that bears the new mappings.

    Hmmm, Aribeth getting augmentation. How could we of possibly guessed? Aribeth the twins are certainly looking more vivid. Thumbs up.

    Given they had already talked about their engine updates and also talked about using Aribeth to test out those features I think it was a safe bet as in they literally told us what they were working on. It's good to pay attention I guess.
