Which Cleric (NPC) do you prefer?

ArcanjoArcanjo Member Posts: 126
No NPC Cleric has 18 Wisdom, only the values of 10, 12, 15, and 16. So let's start by saying that:
With 10 of Wisdom what does a clerk fail to have? And with 16 the difference is too big? I do not know the answer, if you can explain thank you, because it is something that should be considered at the time of voting.

Constitution and Dexterity (Life and Armor) are as far as I know the next two important statuses for clerics (Po'rme viconia has low Con, but earns a lot of life per level, I do not understand why).

Multiclass with Mage, Thief or Fighter should give some differential, if they can even vote to explain, because for me Clerigo, Mage would be one of the TOPs (Aerie? ^^), but 10 of Wisdom, seems very low!

    Viconia (Cleric) [Wis:15 | Dex: 19 | Con: 8]
Yeslick and Viconia are at the front, it is stupidly balanced (only loses in DEX, in thesis has low armor), now Viconia has 8 of CON and Less wisdom than he, she seems a worse choice for BG1, almost has no magicians and beings which would make Viconia more useful with 50% Res. Magica, but their rescues are great. I am in doubt, we will see the opinion of the members of the forum.

A point against VIconia. She is an emotionally abusive, manipulating, liar.

    Branwen (Cleric) [Wis:16 | Dex: 16 | Con: 15]
branwen is one of my favourite clerics because you can get her at level 1, and she hits level 8, so with the ring of holiness she will have 4 level 3 spells and 3 level 4 spells, and has the most spell casting out of any other cleric, plus she fits into any team quite nicely not having to worry about a high REP ( sorry vicky, although your AC and MR is great, being evil really hurts )

a close second is yeslick, having that fighter class gives him way better to hit, and a full extra attack per round ( but i guess with the new beta branwen gets 2 new fancy abilities one of them being holy power, which makes her to hit better than yeslicks because she will be a higher level than him, but yeslick still gets the extra attack on her though ) but yeslick will only have 3 level 3 spells and 2 level 4 spells, and to me in BG1 having one less level 3 and 4 spell makes a big difference

and as i said before, branwen's class has been changed over to priest of tempus and she gets holy power right out of the gate ( and some other special ability although i have no clue what it is since it just says; placeholder, still some kinks to work out yes? )

so branwen really becomes one of the best clerics of bg1, with draw upon holy might and holy power she can have some great AC while dealing out some decent damage when need be, and she gets the most spells out of anyone being able to hit level 8 ( instead of level 7 ) and having that 16 WIS

How does she become this Kit? For in BG1: EE when she turned into Cleric, she came as a Common Cleric, so much so that both have the same saving, number of spells, and even number of magic slots (She lost in Defense but won in HP). In short, it is without a kit, just like the Viconia.

Are you talking about the new version to come? (BG: EE Beta)
For in the present she and Viconia are practically the same.

From what I see, many are choosing Branwen because of the 2.5 upgrade, but in 2.0 (Current) she and Viconia are basically the same, the true differential is "-2 reputation" + "50% res VS Magical hammer Branwen creates, that's all.

    Yeslick (Fighter/Cleric) [Str: 15 | Wis:16 | Dex: 12 | Con: 17]
For mages, I can understand going with a singleclass character because that's the only way to reach the highest mage spell level in the game (5th). However, clerics can reach their highest spell level in the game (4th) even if they multiclass so I think multiclassing is easily the better choice for them. Yeslick is probably the strongest because of his extra attacks per round, with Quayle's casting versatility landing him a second-place spot and Tiax's thief skills putting him third. Viconia's magic resistance is certainly nice but it just doesn't come into play often enough to offset her low attacks per round.

I've never liked having Viconia around because aside from serving as a magnet for hostile spells she doesn't really... do anything. Cleric is probably the worst class to be single-classed in because spell progression is very forgiving and a lot of important divine spells only scale by duration rather than effect so a 1-2 level difference between a single- and multi-classed cleric isn't that noticeable.

Quayle would be my no.1 choice if you didn't get him so damn late. Branwen might be better with the Priest of Tempus kit but I haven't used it yet so I can't comment.

Personally I find if I recruit of the late game multiclasses, they're too low level, and then they never catch up.

Maybe if I ignored any sidequests to get them as fast as possible it'd work out...

I’ve always prefered having my cleric in the front lines so my fighters can use the far-superior bows for damage, so Viconia’s low CON is always a deal-breaker for me. Branwen’s able to wear full plate out of the box, doesn’t require the gauntlets of DEX to get a decent AC, gets extra HP per level, and is available far before Yeslick, Tiax, and Quayle. No question for me.

I did tests with my daughter and Viconia and Branwen, they get the same amount of clerical spells! They also have the same amount of Slots (implying that they can cast as many spells per day).

    The differentials go below:
_Viconia: +2 AC, 50% res. Reputation Reputation
    _Branwen: +11hp, Magic Hammer (+1 and +2 on lv6)

    Did I forget something?
This in the current version! Does not 2.5 have an expected arrival or have?

branwen's wisdom is one point higher than viconia's, so branwen will have one more level 2 spell

I was comparing the two at level 8, it's true that Branwen has 1 extra magic in lv 2, but the rest stayed.

_Viconia: +2 AC, 50% res. Reputation Reputation
_Branwen: +11hp, Magic Hammer innate (+1 and +2 on lv6), +1 extra slot Spell lv2.

    Note:
_At level two, all clerics have "Magic Hammer"!
_With "Holy Power" The difference of HP and Life of the two practically ceases to exist. But remembering that iconia does not carry the best cleric shield of the low force.

Magic Resistance of 50% causes Viconia to evade "Fire and Ice Magic" damage? And what about effects like killer and stinking cloud, or the shaman's ice cloud, more often than other players?

In theory, magic resistance should only work against spells that directly target the character, but I've had moments when Viconia's magic resistance applied against spells that were not directly targeted to her, such as confusion or fear spells. So it's more useful than it seems in practice. If some of you know how the game engine works, maybe they can tell more about the mechanism

Branwen is probably my favorite. NPC Project gives her a romance option, and she's pleasant to have around without it. Good wisdom, pure cleric (for that extra level) and less of a liability over Viciona. Branwen>Viciona>Yeslick. I've played through with Yeslick but I'm always just bummed out he's not the raw tank that Kagain is.

i think the real downside of viconia is that you can't have a REP of 20 with her in your team, now in all reality you don't need 20 REP to finish the game ( hell you don't even need to hit 10 ) but just for convenient sake having to arbitrarily lower your REP so she stays around, oiugh

I like Yeslick too. I'm planning on doing a dwarf F/C CHARNAME canon-party run just so I don't have to wait for him. F/C fits very nicely into canon, which doesn't have a cleric.

I have to vote for Vic, but I usually run with her and Branwen in my front line, both in matching ankheg, one with the disruption mace, one with the gold hammer.

They're my girls, what more is there to say?

The few times I tried Quayle made me like him more. Cleric/mages have so much firepower, and him being a specialist mage makes him even better. His repertoire of spells is quite large, even for BG1 standard. He also can use every wand in the game, which significantly boost his offensive power. He has good dex and int, which is always helpful. His free invisibility spell ain't much, but it can help out anyway. The bonus the saving throws is also nifty. I can totally understand if someone dislike his personnality, but, for me, I find his schtick quite amusing.

I mod him to be available in the Nashkel carnival, though. If he would be only available in chapter 5, I guess that could change my vote.

    gauntlets of dexterity

these can be found in the gnoll fortress area ( the map that is as far south and west as you can go ) as soon as you enter, there will be a bridge, cross it, and two ogrillions will converse with you, tell them that you can't afford to cross the bridge and they will fight you, and one will have the mits

    gauntlets of ogre power

    - first you need to reach baldur's gate the city
    - then you need to go to the area that looks like it would be the "docks" district ( on the baldur's gate map, it is the bottom center area
    - then at the very bottom of the map on the right hand side you will need to go to the left and there will be a ship on the water which is actually and Inn called the "low lantern"
    - once inside the ship, go to deck 2 and a woman named Desreta will approach you
    - when she does ask her what is all this "entropy crap all about" and then say the option about "showing us this pleasure you speak of.... inside the privacy of the bedroom"
    - once you say that, her and Vay-ya will go hostile and you will have to fight them, once both defeated Deserta's body will have the gaunlets of ogre power
