Please make old movies available again

I don't understand why Overhaul couldn't keep the old movies (too). Watching them in small resolutions they are still enjoyable. My idea is to create Mission briefings / Info pages. As the right time occurs, this page should show up and give info to the player (about the Stronghold, about the Quest, etc.) & in the meantime You could watch the original video in a small window at the page's corner. Or just merge the two: at the beginning of each animation there is a Mission/Briefing/Info page with texts, and in the corner is the old video running in a smaller window. Then if you click on "Continue" you can watch the new video.

I hate the new cinematics, they ruin the game for me. Can I switch over to using the original ones instead?

Sure, just port them over from BG1 yourself. However if a few minutes of animated movie ruins tens of hours of game for you, you might have other problems...

The opening cinematic is up on youtube, theres a couple of threads about it, and I hated it.

I think that there's possibly some bugs in the new Intro because it looks poor compare to the old one. I think it should be fix in patch or something.

Re-done maybe. It's too short, they delate a sentence about "others" that is esential in that intro. I thought that enhanced means bigger, stronger, faster.....BETTER. The new intro is a very poor remake.

I certainly wouldn't mind the option to use the old videos instead of the new ones, especially since some of them have not been replaced by anything and are just missing from the game.

Yep, but this idea of mine lets you to watch them all - old and new ones too. And they could create the Info pages / Briefing pages from unused Art, or just paint new ones, so this is not too much work.

I don't care so much about not having the originals, but I would like to see the removed ones re-introduced in a polished state, at some point.

As much as I'd like to see an HD remastering of the old cinematics, I'm happy with them as they are.

That said, the ability to play the old ones from the Movies section at least would be a nice feature that would be simple to implement.

I for one dont really care, 30-60 sec's of movies, in a game thats i will probably put more than 100 hours into.. not a single fuck was given.

I posted it on the Feature requests originally, I think that the comment of not being a bug is from the merged topic. But there are bugs too, I read it on another topic that the music cut is terrible in the new movies. Maybe worth to post it as bug too.

If it'snot a bug, then it's a horrible buisness decision.
Sure the old movies are a bit jagged, but the animations, the quotes the dialogues and sounds are good enough, which makes no sens to replace that with lesser quality vids whic seems overly hysterical just to gain HD.
It's a Pyrrhic choise.

And a contradiction to what was said: we do not change the core. They had to change the sprites, not the movies. The Intro movie lacks of an important phrase too, the spoiler to you: as bhaalspawn being not alone.

The what? What? *Stares at the new intro in dumb shock* They bloody cut the intro in half!
It is pretty, and I must say I prefer this style to the old one, (the 'falling in a book illustration' thing is a nice touch) but what on Earth were they thinking, throwing out half of the material?
In the old movie there is drama, the poor guy is running, swaying on his feet, begging for his life... and dropping the line which is the main point of the whole movie!
And here he just gets thrown around and is sitting there looking sad. No drama, no pacing, no plot exposition, nothing!
Dear Devs, I love you to bits, and I like the direction you took with the movie, but you botched it badly by cutting it like that. Please, do release a longer version, utilizing the entirety of the original soundtrack. This neutered version just won't do.

Didn't they say in the "Things we cannot do" forum thread that they do not have access to the original source files and materials? If they don't then trying to increase the resolution of those old movies without being able to re-render the original files would make the movies look like crap. Probably why they made new ones instead. (Though I agree it feels cheaper than the original. But time is money, right?)
