I'm still fighting between a dwarven fighter/cleric (for the shorty saves) and a ranger 3/cleric x dual (for the Druid spells and free dual wielding). It really depends on who can romance Neera.
But for single player, which I will be certainly playing well in advance of any multiplayer I do, I'm debating between either a Jester or Swashbuckler. I'm leaning towards the jester because his ability is fantastic and he gets normal pick pocket (I like stealing things OK ) but I also like the swashbuckler. Either way I'm go to be playing probably at around 5 reputation.
I'm going to be what I always am. Aidan the young, naive mage. I'll experiment with another class for multiplayer, although I'm not sure which class as of yet.
@elminster Even though I'm leaning toward monk in my first round of BG:EE, I may just have to succumb to jest yet again—jester in BG1 was fun when I tried it during my flirtation with BGT a couple years back. It definitely fits my character concept of a mischief-making misfit in Candlekeep!
Elminster - my friend is definitely going shapeshifter in our duo. Just deciding on the best teammate for him...still thinking
Feels like an age since I've play BG, but going ranger / swashbuckler most likely.
The shapeshifter form has not been fixed though, so don't go thinking its this amazing beast. It won't be. The magic resistance of 20 and the fact you can get it at level 1 are its biggest redeeming points IMO.
I'm just tired of playing the avenger and didn't want to make a totemic. Plus I ended up writing a bio for him which while short I'm happy about.
Plus shapeshifting is just bad ass (as in donkey, so it's ok :-p). You going to roll 374,301 times to get great stats? Or go old-school and roll 2-3? Like D&D!

I'm not going to roll a lot but these are the stats I'm aiming for. We aren't talking a 90+ roll here but it also will probably take at least 10 rolls.
Well I'm stuck with 15 charisma. So as long as I have 16 constitution, 18 dexterity, 18 wisdom, 9 intelligence (minimum for scroll casting) and 15 charisma I'm good. I'll take what I can get strength wise.
@nukenin I don't remember jester from years ago - remind me?
A couple years back I fooled around with Baldur's Gate Trilogy (BGT) which is one means of running BG1 using the BG2 engine, thus enabling the use of BG2's kits and new classes, including the jester kit for bard.
Good point with the intelligence. As for the strength, let me quote a friend: "Can you hold my mace while I sort my inventory?" "Sorry, I rolled once so I can only hold my scrolls and this robe."
Gave me a good laugh! Hard to believe we're still such dorks this many years later!
Back on topic, definitely rolling a good number of times for multiplayer, but for small groups we'll keep the rolling to a few rolls to make things interesting. Besides, not every one can hit the genetic jackpot.

Fair enough. Ideally I'll have 10 strength. I can't wear armor so weight is not much of an issue anyways lol. Other than a helmet, darts/sling and shield, and maybe a good quarterstaff/spear just in case. I can always use barkskin to act as armor, and iron skin on top of barkskin much later than that.
@elminster yeah I think since you were reading the posts live I figured you'd see it, but @mercyfulfate1988 will probably NOW see these since I've just tagged him/her.
Going to print the 150 page manual today (anything in the first manual that's not in the second?)
I'll create a party of 3: A Wizard, a Cleric and a Fighter. That way I have all the important roles filled with toons that I have full control over at all times. Who'll accompany me I'll see as I go :-)

Its mostly instructions for multiplayer, details about the sword coast, how to install the game, how to use features in the game. Certainly nothing you can't look up when you need it, but at the same time if you aren't familiar with the game or are using a tablet it would be good to have. Not sure if it is printworthy though, that is up to you.
I'm going to keep rerolls to a minimum this time. I'm trying to rekindle that "first time" experience I remember from my first time through the game, though I imagine I obsessively rerolled my first character (a glutton for punishment, I just had to go with an elf F/M/T that first time).
@Nukenin Yeah, that crazy rolling, IMO, is best left for situations where it's really needed - e.g. multiplayer where everyone else will be rolling loads for great stats. Only to keep the playing field even.

@elminster I'll tag names going forward!
