Is the 'Zero damage causes spell casting failure' bug unfixable in EE?

Title
In EE when a fireball is cast on a fire immune spellcaster (eg with protection from fire + protection from elements casuing 0 damage) there is a 'spell casting failure'
Is this unfixable in EE? Is beamdog aware or it / it mentioned anywhere in the logs/references?
The original had Tobex which modded the game to change this i think (non-ee) which is not compatitble with ee.
Sincerely,
Thank you

To recreate:
1. Create a new game with a party BG2EETOB (version 2.5 16.6)
2. Create 2x sorcs with fireball, protection from fire, red fire shield and armor (a long casting spell)
3. Using sorc 1 cast prot. from fire and fire shield red on self, then start armor.
4. Using sorc 2 Immediately cast fireball near sorc 1.
Effect -
Feedback: "sorc 1 is immune to my damage, one of the spells has failed, Spell Failed: Casting Failure
Expected: immune to damage (100 fire resist), no damage taken, spell cast normally.
kjeron maybe I missing something?
Thank you
It works properly in BGEE and IWDEE.
