Hey guys, this is a shot in the dark - for anyone this is happening to, can you try installing OpenAL for me? http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/oalinst.zip Do that, and let me know if it's still not working for you.

    Still not working for me
    It solved my problem. Thanks

As soon as I hit play the game crashes. I have tried a few of the things other people have suggested to no avail. Would be nice to play the game I just handed over 20 bucks for...

I am greatly annoyed. The last time I bought a game that didn't work.... Square sent me an apology and a code for free FF7 because they messed up.

Alright, telling BGEE.exe to use compatability for Windows 98 worked for me. Vista SP1 and the other compatability types did not work. I am using Win7 64-bit, with 8GB of memory and an Nvidia 460M graphics card (Alienware M15X laptop). Hope this helps some of you...

I don't know if this will help anyone else, but I changed the baldur.exe property in the 00766 folder to have the following properties:

    Run as administrator
    Vista compatibility (service pack 3)
    Reduced Color Mode
Disable Display Scaling on high dpi settings.

    The game now launches.

I'm still having issues. Should I be launching the game from the baldur.exe or the BGEE.exe?
  • AbradaxAbradax Member Posts: 5
After my changes, I ran it directly from the baldur.exe file.
  • cbarchukcbarchuk Member Posts: 322
When I click the BGEE.exe nothing happens at all, but when I click the baldur.exe fill, it seems to load briefly but then stops. Ugh. Well I can still get my original BGTuTu to work.

Which exe did you make those changes to? I keep getting confused on which one I should be changing.

I was having the same issues. I checked "reduced colour mode" then set the drop-down to 8-bit after installing openAL

I did all this and now the game launches....but I can't see anything. I just get a black screen and the in game pointer. I'm at what I assume is the main menu and I can click things, but I can't see anything.

    Hi guys,
Just to put in my voice: same issue - click play nothing happened
Tried all sorts of methods suggested by others here - no dice.

Also wanted to ask - what is the size of the game folder for you guys? I remember it was advertised to be a 3Gb install unpacked from a download of 1.8Gb. My game folder is only worth 1.8 - could it be the game just failed to unpack and therefore could not start?

    My specs:
    Windows 7 64bit (Language = Chinese) SP1
    ATI mobility HD5730 1gb memory
    Intel Core i5 M520
    4Gb RAM

    Cheers.

Jesus fu- I can't get it to launch when I click the "Run as Administrator" box in the Properties menu but when I unclick that, right click on the baldur.exe thing and click Run as Admin it takes me to my nice, black screened menu. This is f-ing ridiculous. This game was in no way, shape or form ready for release. I'd hate to see how it was back when they pushed the release date back.

I’ve tried all the suggestions here and NOTHING works. It just launches and dies. On some Compatibility settings I get an “Application Corrupt” message. This is the biggest Piece of $hit program I’ve ever purchased. MAYBE, IF, they ever get their act together I MAY have a chance at running the IPAD version and I’ll be able to enjoy this program. In the meantime GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    My Specs:

    Windows 7 64 bit
    8gb of RAM
    NVidia GTX 570 Video

So I found a very strange solution to this problem. By chance I had iTunes open when I launched the game and it worked! I've tested a few times and for some reason the game launches with iTunes open at the same time, but fails to launch without it.

Somehow iTunes makes my game playable. I have no idea how, but I am not complaining.

Moving the 00766 folder to C:\ and running the baldur.exe with no fancy options worked for me. Weird.

Run as admin and switching to Vista (SP2) compatability mode worked for me. I'm on Win7-64, This really shouldn't be happening, Win7 has been out for a fair while now.

Just out of curiosity, everyone elses folder looks like this, right?

When you move the 00766 folder to C:\ what do you do with the two other files?

For thos who have ATI card, WIN 7 32-bit. GO to AMD page and download newest drivers, it fixes the issue.

    Looks same for me, bro.
Also tried every compatibility option and nothing worked. I hate myself for wasting 20$. It really isn't that low cash, especially FOR NOTHING.

Right, after trying all day I finally have it loading! After examination of the windows event log there were a couple of SvS errors (as seen in the http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/7735/poss-fix-for-game-crashing-after-clicking-play#latest thread). If you look in there and see errors about a missing assembly when you click play, try installing the visual c++ 2008 redistributable. Finally worked for me :)

I didn't touch them. Only moved the 00766 folder.

What worked for me (I had "application stopped working" after clicking Play in introduction to Candlekeep; and also intro didn't show up only some strange zoomed bricks from menu in with you can choose game type, then I had to click for main menu to appear).

I have notebook with Moblity Radeon HD 3650 and what I had to do is to install new driver from here:

    http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/catalystlegacywin8.aspx

Until today I was using driver downloaded by my Windows 8 64 bit. And it was OK for all games. Anyway I think that rather than new driver what has worked for me was Catalyst Control Center and other stuff with I wasn't using earlier. So install all you can what comes with you driver (all this apps that gives you oportunity to change antialiasing and other stuff). I thing that people with nVidia have similar application so you may try to do same thing.

Buy a game, spend an afternoon just trying to get the thing to run properly. I love PC gaming.

Yes, PC gaming is the most proper to errors and manual workarounds of all. But it has the most games that I like (and they usually are better on all aspects) and great emulators as well.
