Blog Resurrected

TarotRedhandTarotRedhand Member Posts: 1,481
Back at the end of February last year (2018) I started a series of blog posts to help people to make a start on module building. This series is based around the toolset tutorials that Bioware originally released over a decade ago. I included a link to where this tutorial can be found and instructions on getting it from the archive. The reason for the blogs was so that I could offer advice on things not mentioned in the tutorials and any pitfalls to be avoided. This was to make peoples first experience of using the toolset a smoother, less teeth gnashing affair than it might otherwise have been.

What I actually did was to follow the instructions myself and start building the module that so many had built in the past using these instructions. While doing that I made note of where I thought a newbie might have problems and built the blog entries around that.

I had got up to (and published the blog for) tutorial number three when I came across a couple of bugs in the toolset. I reported them and decided to pause the creation and publishing of these blog entries until these bugs were fixed. It would seem that this may have been an error as I am still waiting more than a year later. Heck there hasn't been a patch for NwN EE for over 6 months now.

So, I recently took the decision that this series needed to not only be resurrected but brought all the way to the end. This I have now done. I have included mention of the bugs and the work arounds for them. There are a total of 8 blog entries (plus an addendum to one blog post linked to in that post). Here are links to them all and a link to where the Bioware tutorial can be found.

So you want to make a module for NwN EE Part 1
So you want to make a module for NwN EE Part 2
So you want to make a module for NwN EE Part 3
So you want to make a module for NwN EE Part 4
So you want to make a module for NwN EE Part 5
So you want to make a module for NwN EE Part 6
So you want to make a module for NwN EE Part 7
So you want to make a module for NwN EE The Final Part

There is one small downside to the approach that I took in these blog posts. That is the further you get in to these the shorter they tend to become as the same issues occur several parts and I took the decision to try to avoid repetition. Also, a couple of the posts actually deal with two tutorials at once. This is because these particular tutorials were quite short.

Anyway, I hope people find these useful.

@JuliusBorisov I posted this in here because the general section was where I announced the original three blog posts. If you think this thread would be better in the toolset section please move it.
