Game continuously freezes and actually won't allow me to Ctrl Alt Del or Alt F4 out, forcing a manual restart.

My specs

Processor:Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory:3070MB RAM
Hard Drive:154 GB
Video Card:RADEON X600 256MB HyperMemory
Monitor:Plug and Play Monitor
Sound Card:SigmaTel Audio
Operation System:Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.120504-1619)
Motherboard:

EDIT DEC 6th - Turns out my Drivers weren't up to date. Do not trust Dell site or your PC model, go to the specific video card companys website.

Please check that your drivers are up-to-date. Alt-F4 (currently) doesn't work on this game btw.

That said, the Radeon X600 is still an 8 year-old budget video card. Yes, it should work, in theory, but that's kinda pushing it.

So, in theory, I am screwed

    Sigh

Was working seamlessly.. too good to be true.. did all the Candlekeep quests soooo fast....then massive freeze epidemic

Back to Warcraft 3 or League of Legends, whatever will work :(

Yeah, the same issue. Mostly on the world map, when I try to get to another location. And there is a special place where my system starts to get slowing and then freezing - that bridge to BG location, if I go to the right from the priestess house.

My system: i5-3570, GF 670 GTX, 16 Gb RAM, Windows 7.

Hmm so it might not be on my end after all.

    Crazy

Game was practically bug free until I got to Nashkell. Now it seems to be freezing up quite frequently. Fortunately, Win 7 will allow you to close the game but it's still quite a PITA. Seems it could be audio related because sound starts cracklin/poppin/buggin out before it happens.

Yeah I don't know. Game runs absolutely picture perfect for a while then Freezes randomly.

I want people's opinions though, I want to get to the bottom of if it's on my end, or on the games end.

I have the same problem, it was smooth as butter until Nashkel then random freezes and stuttered audio

My game runs flawlessly until the Friendly Arms Inn. Once there I begin getting random freezes on exiting buildings. Shame as the game looked so promising.

    AMD Athlon II x4 core
    4 GB RAM
    Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS 320MB RAM
    Onboard audio

The game has issues on Create X-Fi sound cards, perhaps this also applies to SB Audigy 2 cards. Can you make sure you're running the latest drivers for your sound card and check the solutions listed under "C. Sound" here : http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/8405/read-before-posting-master-technical-faq ?

Happened again in the cave in the Lighthouse area SW of High Hedge. Played game for 3 hours straight without any issues, enter the cave, sound starts stuttering, game freezes. Seems to be area dependent.

@Ashlspiess can you try what @Kruno suggested here?

I downloaded the update and had a Crash instead of a freeze. I heard an error sound then it crashed to desktop. Just now it froze my PC again instead of a much preferred crash to desktop :(

2 tries on the new update so far

The game crashes frequently for me as well, usually doing area transitions. Fun.

Upon the last crash my tower gave a loud beep error

When I restarted I got these Windows error messages. Curious if means it's on my end or not. This is a shitty Dell 5150 from like 2005 though...

I am crashing on area transitions but now I have discovered I can make the game crash by simply clicking on the characters enough times. I load up the game start repeatedly clicking and within 30 seconds I have a crash. If I don't repeatedly click I will have a crash at some point from 2-60 minutes of game play. Fun.

    yeah I've lost hope :(

pretty sure it's on my end and I doubt they're going to Fix anything for old shitty PC's

Oh BG:EE I've let you crash my PC far too many times...
  • InkeytheRPGInkeytheRPG Member Posts: 23
It's not just old shitty pc's having trouble, I am on a fairly new 4 core Athlon 2 and I crash constantly.

I'll check out the Creative driver update when I have time. On the plus side, once I got out of Nashkel the other day, I made through a good dozen areas, and into the Nashkel mines without a crash. I have noticed that it always seems to be raining when it crashes haha.

I even tried installing on my other pc, used the beamdog installer rather than the stand alone too for good measure. Neither PC shares any of the same hardware however both are Windows 7 64bit. I copied my saves over and they crashed in the exact same spot, when transitioning areas or clicking on an object. Tried a previous save and managed to get past the spot from the newest save and played for a good hour before another round of crashing, on both pcs.

at least you can get an hour in before it crashes...
  • InkeytheRPGInkeytheRPG Member Posts: 23
Playing an hour is even more frustrating in my opinion. I change some setting, fire the game up start playing and thing "Maybe that was it, it is playing fine now". Then 47 minutes later, 15 minutes after my last quick save, BAM there it goes.

If you got a crash dump, please zip and upload it here.
