Melicamp missing

in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
So I picked up Melicamp and then went to High Hedge in order to complete his test but he is missing from my inventory. Went back pick him up again, assuming I had just missed something, but he is gone. Anyone every had this before and have any idea what I might have done?

    Most likely that item just dropped from your inventory.

    Activate the console and use the following command:

    C:CreateItem("MISC49")
