Difficulties learning new spells

Hi,

Im having alot of trouble learning new wizard spells from scrolls.

Im playing a mage/cleric with 18 int, so i should have 85% chance of success. Yet, I seem to fail 2 out of 3 attempts each time i learn a new scroll. It feels like Im having some sort of penalty. I am playing with the latest SCS but nothing else.

Any ideas??

Well, that's an 85% chance, not 100%. I always make sure to use potions to get to 24/25 INT.

If your mage/cleric is an illusionist, they have a penalty against learning non-Illusion spells.

if im not mistaken, you can lower the difficulty setting to normal i believe and it will make it so you can't fail at writing spells into your spell book

Okey, Thanks for the responses. I thought it was just me who felt the 15 % chanse of failure was high. I suppose it would be even worse if i was playing a specialist. :-)

sarevok57's method is what I do too if I have a lot of scrolls to memorise (say, if I just went on a buying spree). Just temporarily drop the difficulty down to Normal, which gives a 0% chance of scribing failure, scribe them all, then turn the difficulty back up. :) It just saves time from you saving and reloading! Or, if that feels too cheat-y, then drinking Potions of Genius etc. should boost it up to a point where the chance to fail is miniscule.

For a non-specialist, a potion of genius to get Int past 20 indeed makes the failure chance minimal; the cleric/mage described here would have 99% chance of success at Int 22. You'd still notice the failures because of the loud noise, but they would be very rare.

For a specialist mage (or other kitted arcanist), there's no such thing as a minimal failure chance; you're looking at at least 15% failure unless you drink multiple potions to go all the way to Int 24 and certain success.
