tim caine felt the same way when he played fallout 1 a couple years ago. they have become jaded it seems in their old age.
For us consumers, we only see the finished product. We don't get to see all the work that went into it, and we don't have to face the anxiety of putting something out for people to judge it (often harshly, given the nature of internet discourse). The production process is filled with so much editing, troubleshooting, rewriting of both script and code, re-conceptualization, and more. Doing this over and over, every day for decades is bound to leave a person a little jaded, especially if they start each project hoping to create something beloved by many.
I have never worked on something as big as a AAA video game, but what creative work I have produced in the past, I know I have little love for. That's not to say I'm not happy I put it out there, and if even just one person found something to enjoy, then I'm glad. But I feel like I'm always going to have stuff to nit-pick, things I wish I could have done differently. And going back and re-experiencing it is more often than not a reminder of all the hard work that went into it, and I don't really want to think about work when engaging with a piece of escapism.
