Joining the bandit camp

I am planning around a new game and I really want to take Spider's Bane as early as possible.

My question is if joining the Bandit Camp opens up Cloakwood Forest ? Which action opens Cloakwood, is it opening the trapped chest inside the bandit camp ? If that is the case I can activate the trap on it and actually kill everyone inside by the lighting bolt. Even better.

And do I need to visit Nashkel Mines before being able to join the bandits ?

Again the idea is to rush Cloakwood for the sword, as early as level 1 even if possible. I want that sword.

    Negative. The bandits in Pelvdale were missing. I think Nashkel mine has to be completed first.

    Cloakwood becomes only available as Chapter 4, which happens after you pick the letters in the Bandit camp.
