I thought I'd start a thread highlighting a lot of the complaints and negative aspects people have been reporting on these forums so far.
I thought it would be good to limit the amount of space it is taking up in this forum. If you have specific bug to report, you should do that in the BUGS forum.
I'll not include complaints about expecting certain features which were not put in, because the features of the new edition have been freely available for a long time, so if people bought the game and expected something else that is not really the fault of the developers.
I shall update this list with more things as more feedback comes in. Here are some of the more common complaints people are having:
Graphics;
- Dislike of the new videos, both of cutting out some completely, and the style of the replacements
- Dislike of the resolution and blurriness when zooming in
- Zoom resets to default level every time you change area.
- Cannot improve framerate
- Font can be difficult to read
UI:
- Some parts of the UI look blurred and streched at large resolutions, such as the spell book
- Dislike of the new UI in general, particularly the colours and trim.
- Scrollwheel for scrollbars not working in journal or in stores
- Lots of wasted space
- No customisability
- UI not displaying your thac0 or damage correctly
Sound:
- Some default sounds, such as footsteps being set too loud.
- Some sounds are missing
Gameplay:
- Problems with getting NPC's to do a selected action the first time of asking
Bugs:
_ Obviously, a number of people are still experiencing bugs wich are stopping them playing the game
- As a general complaint, the game feeling too rough around the edges / not polished enough
- CTD occurances happening
Like I said, I'll be updating this list, so feel free to add your own complaints below.

I also think any feedback is legitimate, and negative feedback needs a place on the forums without being condemned, but it would be nice if there was a thread or two for it so the forums don't get spammed with stuff like they are at the moment.
I just hate bumping my own threads, because it makes you feel like a jackass really you know? I'm hoping people will notice it again eventually. :P
The scroll wheel not working is very annoying for me, and the weird "blurriness" I see in the game is a little offputting, but it's not too bad. I've also noticed that some of the UI "hints" that are supposed to pop up when you mouse over a button are buggy and either don't always pop up or pop under other UI elements. I haven't had any time to actually play, though, so that's all I've come across.
Oh yeah, and Beamdog seems to be a buggy POS. It crashes pretty regularly on all systems I have it on and is generally annoying. Oh well.
Gameplay
- Infrequent or non-existent autosaves
- Slow character walk speed
- Need to occasionally issue a command twice
GUI
- Massive waste of space on UI - large blank areas of blue that look hideous and serve no purpose but to obscure the main gameplay screen
- Spellbook layout is horrible IMO. Again, lots of wasted space, blurryness on the spellbook itself, the memorised spells box is too small, the icons seem low-res or stick out from the background
- Tooltips need work - manly are barely legible, e.g. 'Badly Injured' can be difficult to read with the font that is used. Also there are two 'Rest' tooltips for GUI buttons
- Desperately need UI scaling - I want my menu bars to be much, much, MUCH smaller than they are. Currently it looks like a childs toy where you need to hit the buttons with hammers
Controls
- 'L' key to quickload can destroy game progress for clumsy people like me
- Scrolling with mouse wheel doesn't work on Journal screen
now if that's my biggest complaint of the game so far, I'd say the devs didn't do too bad. Feeling lucky I'm not getting some major bugs like some folk here are.
If you want to unbind the Quickload key, you can do that under Options > Gameplay > Reassign Hot Keys (it's at the top). I can definitely see that being a problem.
And to be fair, there are things I'm in favor of, as well. I thought the new zoom feature was very well-implemented, and the numerous minor improvements to the engine really make a difference.
1. New cutscenes just seem like pieces of paper moving slowly behind one another. I kept waiting for something to happen, especially on the new city transitions. Where's the guy sneezing in Beregost? And they cut Serevok's important line about others.
2. Zoom resetting upon every transition
3. Mousewheel not working in all areas
4. Slow to click up and down in merchant screens
5. Buttons not working - Escape (for returning to main), Keypad Enter (should work like standard enter), Keypad numbers (should work like standard numbers)
6. THAC0 box wrong. I hope this is a display problem and my Archer isn't really getting nerfed
7. Can't dual Imoen to specialist mage (this has already been talked to death)
8. NPCs aren't 'maturing'. Once my Archer reached level 2, I recruited Misc (who should be level 2) and he was level 1. I kicked out all the other party members and tried again. Still level 1. I went up to Friendly Arm and Jaheira/Khalid were also level 1 (I hadn't touched them yet and they should be level 2).
OK, so most of this list would just make me whine a little, but 6 (if real) and 8 are a disaster. If 8 is not a bug, it would fundamentally change the game. A huge part of the fun for me is having different NPCs in the party. You would have to race around to collect your permanent party and be severely penalized using the other 'level 1' NPCs later (Imoen, Xzar, Montaron, Khalid, Jaheira, Kagain, Garrick, Minsc, Edwin, Dynaheir). I don't know the starting level of the new characters, but they might be part of that list as well.
No autosave after creating character
My dad was killed classically by a wolf after leaving candlekeep and has to start from character creation again. This.. makes me sad.
I don't believe there were autosaves at those points in the original game either. Definitely something that ought to be amended.
My dislikes, for now, are 2.
The major one is that we are unable to use BG1 animations/sprites for our characters if we so wish, since the data was not included.
Since Infinity Animations is impossible to work, we are unable to even use a mod to play the game like we could with the original.
I can't stress enough how much i dislike this. I dislike it enough that i'm not going to properly play the game, because at this point, considering other problems as well, it won't be a satisfying experience.
The original game or a modded one with BGT and Infinity Animations gives me the ability to do so, but BG:EE does not. I hope this gets resolved soon, it is mind boggling that BG:EE took something out from the first game, something that a lot of us loved and was actually part of BG legacy, but i guess it was not important enough.
The minor one, is male portraits. Lame, lamer than lame. Male->lame, get it? But yeah, too much beard, not enough badassery. We'll have to make our own portraits again like usual, and this "dlc" was forced on pc people, but since i preordered for 2$ less, it's like i didn't pay for it, so whatever.
The portraits is kinda subjective, and anyone can use his own in the end.
I'm not accounting the bugs, because there is no point, they are getting fixed as we speak.
The first problem however with the sprites, is just meh. I knew this would happen. And i'm afraid it will always stay as "low priority".
I like it when modders step up to get the job done, but for now, we just wait.
No ability to increase or decrease game speed. Why remove this? It makes no sense.
The UI is huge! Was this done so that it would not need to be redone for other platforms? The UI should be resizeable. I don't think it would have been so hard to implement this.
Bugs
- When you attempt to remove someone from your group, the screen pans endlessly to the south
- If (like me) you mindlessly replace someone in your party (in my case Minsc) with Dorn, you've lost them forever. You cannot revisit the location you pick up Dorn because it's an ambush spot and doesn't appear on the map
- When you pick up Kagain, he immediately initiates dialogue and tells you that he's fed up of looking for the caravan and that you can do whatever you want now
- Something is going on with Jaheira's experience. Literally after the 3rd or so battle I got into, she levelled up to a 2/2 whereas everyone else in my party (including Charname) was still sitting at less than 1k experience
- Not sure how this happened, or if its reproducible, but I'll report it anyway. My character is a fighter dual wielding longswords, and the offhand sword broke. I didn't notice at first, but when I looked at my inventory screen the offhand weapon had been replaced by a bastard sword that was in his inventory, and the main hand was unequipped even though there was a perfectly good longsword slotted
- Jaheria had 2x Cure Light Wounds memorised and placed into the quickcast slot. I had already used both spells so the number displayed 0. When I rested, I was interrupted by monsters and the number displayed 4, though they did not appear in the regular spell menu
Gameplay
- Why the heck does Dorn start with 8 HP max? If I'm not wrong, he should be getting 1d10 from Paladin/Blackguard kit, then an additional +2 for 14 Con, no?
- Wasn't sure whether to include this, but I have to mention that Rasaad can't hit worth a damn. I was checking my logs, and after a few hectic fights I've seen that he wasn't able to land a single blow - ever.
UI
- Minimise the left menu bar, then loot something - you get visual glitches
- On the merchant Buy/Sell screen, the mouse wheel always scrolls the left pane and never the right, regardless of where the cursor is, or where you have clicked
- I'm not sure that my strength bonus is being calculated into the min/max damage preview in the inventory screen
- The journal quest logs can be confusing as hell when some items appear on multiple chapter pages. Also, the Chapter 1 quest to meet Jaheira and Khalid doesn't seem to complete, even after I've cleared Nashkel mines
Audio
- I'm pretty sure there is some gender bending going on. There are NPCs that are referred to as female, but have male voice sets. The one that sticks out to me is the shorty in the 1st floor of the Friendly Arms Inn who gives a quest
- The handling of greater resolution, greater monitors is not really available for BG:EE, it only puts two "grey panels" to the both sides of the picture...
Spells have a too bad resolution in the spell tome...
In another language than English will not hear the voices of npcs... -> very serious
