Backstabs and Criticals

I have some questions about opcode 340 and 341 that aren't clear to me in IEDSP. When you use these opcodes, do they replace the normal effects or are they in addition to?

Also what's the purpose of backstab.spl?

    Backstab.SPL is the "normal effects" used for backstab when 3E Sneak Attacks are enabled.

    Opcode 341 doesn't replace anything.
    Opcode 340 will only replace/override other instances of itself, using normal stacking order.

    So when using either of these, you still get critical or backstab damage, in addition to the spell?
