How restrictive should the belt of the skillful blade be?

in Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear
The Belt of the Skillful Blade, in addition to improving a blade's off hand thac0, improves all the wearer's slashing damage.

Would you say you're shooting yourself in the foot if you use non-slashing weapons while wearing that belt? Or is it a bit more lenient than that?

    Not necessarily, if those non-slashing weapons are missile weapons.

    Hmm, to me that 10% slashing damage bonus looks like easily the biggest selling point of that belt. If you just take the thaco bonus, you might maybe change to a Golden Girdle or one of the other defensive belts (or maybe Big-Fisted Belt if available), especially if you're playing a swashbuckler who might not be great defense-wise at SoD-levels yet...
