@Oxford_Guy Aha! It's good to see a fellow archer! I have a 70lbs Kassai Bear and am still working my way out to draw it at its full. The STR could matter with Long and Composite bows only, shorts bows being a weapon for many thieves and dualed th/m should stay without the modifier.

To balance it out with other thrown weapons, there's no reason why there shouldn't be a DEX modifier for all of them, throwing knives is not an easy feat and hurling darts and aiming at someone's vitals isn't easy either.

Dexterity *and* Strength bonus to THAC0? Yeah, that's gotta be a bug.

Looks like Halflings are out of luck, Elven Slingers are king.

I presume you mean because halflings can't have 18 starting strength, but elves can, and both can have 19 Dex? I'm pretty sure, however, that for slings only the Dex bonus is actually added to THAC0, but the Strength bonus is added to damage.

Halflings get an innate +1 THAC0 with slings (elves get this for bows and all swords).

Correct, if you read the original post, @szb has stated that slings are getting Str to THAC0, not just damage. If that's true, then an 18/51 Strength elf has the same THAC0 as a Halflng and does more damage per hit. Give 'em a tome and you're looking at a clear case of Elven superiority.

Is that a compound bow (more popular in the USA) or a recurve bow (as used in the Olympics and more popular in Europe and Asia)? Mine's the latter, but both are fun. They draw in very different ways, though, once past the "peak" when drawing a compound bow, it's no effort to hold it fully drawn, unlike a recurve bow. I have a Hoyt Nexus recurve bow BTW.

Dex *is* a to hit modifier for all ranged weapons already, including thrown ones

Mine's a traditional wooden recurve, I don't personally like compound bows, I'd rather shoot a crossbow, they're not so unwieldy and much more sturdy. All the gimmicks on compound bows would be quite irritating for me :).

Yes, I do prefer the relative simplicity of a recurve bow over a compound.
