BG:EE - Multiplayer over internet with others who don't have SoD.

I'm reading mixed messages reagrding having SoD and playing across the internet with others who don't have SoD. Some say that I have to uninstall SoD in Steam (uncheck the DLC), others are saying I can just run a different executable(?) I am only concerned with running BG:EE in multiplayer, no SoD.
Is this still required to play with others who don't have the DLC? Is there a way to do it without uninstalling the DLC to play multiplayer and then reinstalling every time I want to play single player SoD?

    If you want to arrange a MP game between players, all of them need to have the same setup: either BG:EE only or BG:EE+SoD. So if you friend has BG:EE only, you need to disable the SoD DLC in the Steam app.

    You can have multiple copies of the game folder with different setups and launch them via .exe directly if you want to play SP SoD without uninstalling the DLC to play MP.
